Drove 40 minutes to try this steakhouse in Elkin, NC. Got there with my family was seated waitress got drink order then we ordered, we ordered a tumbleweed onion it came out small with a tiny 1/2 cup of dipping sauce, I asked the girl who brought it out for another cup of dressing to dip it in since there are 4 in the party. She never came back with it. We had already had ate the onion by the time the food came out and she had told the waitress and it actually was put way after it was gone on my sons plate, with his cheeseburger kids meal. What a shame we didn't get it with our onion. Then the steak my husband had ordered medium came out dripping blood medium no, but medium rare, rare. It was red dripping blood. Then he sent it back and my philly sub was bad also. The bread was so over toasted that it was hard beyone edible. The waitress came back with the steak and it was odd looking. It was very black on outside and inside it was red still, not dripping blood, but not even close to medium. I also told her about our sandwich and told her to go ahead and get the manager to the table. Manager was a young girl and she comes out and never apologizes to us at all, I show her how hard the bread it and how you can't eat it, her reply was it was italian bread, I said I knew what italian bread was and this was over toasted unedible. I took a fork and you could hear it loadly. You could have broke something with how hard it was. She said she would take the steak off but she couldn't take the sandwich off and I told her that I wasn't paying for the sandwich or the steak, but I would pay for my sons meal and the two poor salads that they had brought out. The manager leaves and never comes back, then the waitress comes back with a bill now for $18.15 for two scrubby house salads and a kids meal and one blooming onion. No drinks just water. What a poor run outfit, to rip people off who have drove down to have a nice meal out. I do not want others to be ripped off like I was and my family was tonight. What a waste of your money to eat at this hole. It is not the same steakhouse as the one before this one. But a big, big rip off to anyone who is foolish to eat at this dive. You can dress your building up but if you don't have employees who care about their customers you won't have a business for too long. If you keep doing people this way you won't have a business for too long. My husband didn't get anything to eat but a half warmed piece of bread and a couple of bites of onion, I nor my daughter got anything to eat and to think we left there hungry everyone except for our son. Who thank god this little man got his food correctly. What a shame to do your customers like this, to whomever the owner of this business is, your employees were too busy trying to get done and leave. We left this building in the pitch dark with no outdoor lighting on, your employees were too busy cleaning up with bathroom doors wide open, running around throwing chairs up on the tables, and closing your grill down. More important to get the hell out of the building than to wait on your table with a family of four at it. You get not only two thumbs down, but no more of my familys hard earned money ever,...
Read moreMy family has a simple vacation-time rule: when traveling out of town, we don't eat at chain restaurants that we could visit near our (Charlotte-area) home. While it can be a bit challenging sometimes when on the road to find unique fare that's worth eating, it's important to teach our children to not fear the unknown. Fortunately, our little rule generally leads us to places that leave us with no regrets. Such was the case this past weekend when, while Googling for food options near the NC/VA line on I-77, we were made aware of the Dodge City Steakhouse.
Now, I'll be honest: the photos and such that I saw online did not immediately inspire me to assume that we were in for any real treat. I expected a mediocre meal at a reasonable rate, dining with the locals in a moderately maintained roadside restaurant. But, travel to Elkin we did. And we were glad to have done so.
When we arrived, we found a building similar to a Texas Roadhouse or other popular chain steakhouse. But there are some pretty key differences. We weren't immediately aurally assaulted by obnoxiously loud country music. We were shown to a clean booth free of peanut shells and related dust. And best of all: our server -- who was friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to share her recommendations -- never had to excuse herself to run off and line dance. [Don't get me wrong: I don't mind the Texas Roadhouse, but it is absolutely not the place to enjoy a family meal where conversation might possibly break out.]
I struggled to select an entree because, frankly, the menu offered far too many enticing options. In the end, my wife and I shared the pineapple pork tenderloin, and thoroughly enjoyed it. One son ordered the teriyaki chicken stir-fry (the leftovers of which I just polished off for lunch today, thankyouverymuch); the other a cheeseburger. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the yeast roll accompaniment, so much so that -- in a rare moment for us -- this restaurant earned our dessert attention. Two fried apple pies a la mode later, and we were ready to hit the road again toward home, well-fed, well-served, and making digital notes to remember and return to the Dodge...
Read moreMy wife and I visited last night for our last time. Have visited this establishment several times over the years and have experienced problems about every time, ranging from poor/slow service, bad quality food and/or bad food prep. Would usually go back after some time cause of the lack of steak houses in Elkin and seemed to have pretty good crowds. Arrived at 5:30, not as crowded as most good steak houses at this time on a Friday. Waitress was very nice and worked hard. Ordered New Orleans steaks, cooked medium, with all the fixens. After 40 minutes someone from the back came out and informed us that our food had been over cooked so they where starting over and there would be a delay. After 25 more minutes the food came out. Mine had no taste, but was able to fix with about an half bottle of A-1. My wife ate about half of hers, then blood started oozing out. Evidently that half never seen the grill, cause it was pretty much raw. Never have been able to eat a steak after being recooked, so she got a to go box to take home to our dog. Waitress tried to give us a free desert for there screw up, no fault of hers, but at that point it was time for us to just call it good and move on. From now on if we eat steak in Elkin it will be from...
