El Compa Taqueria Bloomington — Restaurant in Ellettsville

I’ve heard a lot of people rant and rave about Taco Shell. So I finallyyyyyy went… but I waited too long. Ownership changed hands and they’re now exploiting and riding off the success of the previous ownership. I wish I would have done some research before I went here.

3 small birria tacos with NO consumme, NO rice or beans, and NO place to sit. My son got the ramen. Literally cheap ramen in consumme. I took some of his consumme to dip my tacos in. We spent $35 (+$4 and change for our fountain drinks from the connected gas station). It was admittedly decent birria for a gas station, but these prices are something I would expect of a full-service sit-down restaurant. And a nice one at that.

To top it off… I know it’s not the same business, but you can’t really avoid interacting with the gas station lady when you walk in the door… She stared us down the entire time we were there. We got fountain drinks from the connected gas station while we waited for our food. My son (who is EIGHT) got root beer that he let foam over a little bit and the lady that tends to the gas station rushed over like it was a crisis. I’m talking two droplets of root beer on the counter. My son looked mortified. I was by his side monitoring the situation the entire time. Her presence was not needed. A single napkin would have taken care of it, but I didn’t see any… so I figured since she’s over here acting like we ruined her day, I could ask her if she had one and she very rudely said “NO!” Ok. Well. That’s a silly expense to forego. Good luck then. 👍

Between the prices and that woman harping at my child, I’ll never step foot in that...

Just because this place is inside of a gas station, it doesn't mean it's not good. Everything I've ordered here is always really flavorful and delicious. They have a big menu and reasonable prices. Service has been great every time that I stop in. I always take my food to go but there's seating on the other side if you want to enjoy your food asap.
