Wow. I was excited a brewery was opening up in Ellijay, but Cartecay surpassed my expectations. Their facility is very nice, with a clean and well-appointed interior and a great little porch overlooking the creek. Incredibly pleasant! They could've served me garbo and I'd have been content. Instead, I took a comprehensive survey of their offerings (read: two flights and go-to growler) and was thoroughly impressed. Everybody has IPAs, but the Cartecay double and NE were extremely well balanced and refreshing. More impressive were their standard brown ale, red ale, and porter. The head brewer himself described the British pub traditions of the brown, and it held true. I felt like singing songs. The porter -- an underrated and difficult brew to pull off on a small-ish scale -- was also tremendous. They also had a Marzen dubbed "Wake Me Up When September Comes", which was a great take on a festbier and a wonderful name. I will be back every time I...
Read moreWe had a free afternoon in Ellijay, Georgia, so we decided to check out this brewery. It was located a little off the beaten path, so a little less crowded than the downtown establishments. They have their own lot, so parking is free and easy. I prefer cozy rustic bars over the open-air industrial warehouse atmosphere, so the small local atmosphere of this brewery was perfect for me. But don't let the size fool you, they had a good selection of beers: about 18 taps.. I don't usually drink fruity beers, but the bartender gave me a taste of a summertime seltzer: wild raspberry hibiscus sour, and it really refreshing. It was also a pretty pink color. My husband had a Bobcat Ultra Blond, a Kolsch. The beers were so good, we had two! Good service, good beer, and a really nice patio next to the Cartecay River. If I were a local, this would be my go-to place for an afternoon beer. If this review and photos were helpful,...
Read moreVery friendly, excellent beer, great outdoor (on the river!) and indoor (lots of games and seating!) location, dog and family friendly - everything I want in a brewery, which is good beer and a relaxing place to hang out. We tried a mix of solid traditional styles (amber, brown, porter, an excellent seasonal Märzen) and more experimental (the PSL porter which has a great name — Cliché, and an excellent mango habanero beer), and everything was great. I am looking forward to coming back the next time I am in the mountains. This would be the perfect place to go after a hike with my dog! I'm adding an additional sentence just for the mango chili beer - it has a lot of flavor, perfect level of sweetness (aka not too much), and a nice chili heat but not overpowering. You can taste a lot of mango, but it still tastes like beer. I only had a small sample, but I think it may be a...
