Doc's Victory Pub — Restaurant in Elmhurst

My husband and I walked in last Friday for a drink around 8 pm. The bar was fairly busy, but with open seats at the bar, overall a fun and bustling atmosphere. Unfortunately, the bartenders refused to look in our direction. We walked in and sat at the bar, waiting as the bartender cleaned and organized the bar. No big deal, we understand it’s a busy Friday night. But every time she got near us, she would look away- as if purposely avoiding us. None of the bartenders welcomed us or acknowledged us in the first place but we chalked it up to it being kind of busy.. until it kept happening. Other patrons would come up to the bar to order and return plates/ cups, so it’s not like the bartenders were incapable of assisting, acknowledging, or serving others.. except us.

Eventually, the bartender came near us so I said “excuse me, hi! Can we place an order?” And she ignored me! She continued her task and walked away from me, even though it was clear that I was speaking to her.

We were so taken aback that we left. It was so strange to feel invisible, especially as others were being served next to us. I wasn’t going to write a review, but the experience was really uncomfortable that I am looking back, thinking “why did that happen?”

We went next door where the servers treated us with genuine kindness...

We absolutely love Docs, they have amazing food, amazing drinks and THE BEST service. We’ve been there a dozen times and always had stellar service. Very recently we met their GM, Amber and it became instantly clear that the service was a direct trickle down effect from her leadership. Amber went way above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We recently got a new puppy and she made sure he had water and even chopped up some carrots for him which are his favorite. She was constantly talking to guests and moving people around the patio to ensure they had shade and were comfortable. Her dedication to guest service is truly refreshing and very rare in the post Covid restaurant industry. We will certainly be back again and again...

Docs is a neighborhood gem! We can always count on great drinks, great service and a great time at docs. It is THE place to be to catch a game on TV and to hang pre football games at the local high school. They are wonderful supporters of the community and host many different groups and host fun events...
