Grocer's Daughter Chocolate Gelato and Sweets Shop — Restaurant in Empire Township

I will preface this by saying that without a doubt, this is the best gelato around, but I would recommend sampling first as understandably, using fresh real ingredients. The flavor profile tends to fluctuate. The staff seemed to all be consummate professionals, and since they opened till this year, I thought that they have been running quite well. All but a few minor inconveniences like more indoor seating and smaller tables.

But this year, it just feels like they’re trying too much with the I don’t mind them branching out and selling Mexican-American food, but what I do mind is the load of cheap foreign imports that feel like they clutter the space, mass produced junk. It would be one thing if it appeared to be quality handmade items, but for the most part, it wasn’t. If you’re gonna sell anything sell local, or support Latin American or South American trades people. And don’t get me started on them, contributing to the lack of affordable housing in this county, building a new building and then renting out the upstairs as short term vacation rental. We live about 20 minutes from Grocer’s Daughter and try very hard to get in once a week in the summer when the shop is open! It’s one of our favorite experiences and the first time I tried the mint gelato I felt like I’d never tasted anything more fresh or beautiful - every flavor has that effect! We love the atmosphere too, especially the patio area that has plenty of games for kids and the rocking chairs. It’s truly a little oasis in a busy tourist town. We feel that the prices are well worth it for the locally focused ingredients and really well done product. Also they just added a small take out cooler for you to grab and go food and snacks and we love that as well. Definitely worth a stop...

I agree with a couple of previous reviews. The price was high for the small portion that was received. I understand, fair wages and locally sourced dairy. I have had authentic gelato and this was not as good in my opinion. The other issue is not having the American Flag but having a couple other political flags flying. It is a free country and anyone can fly any flag they want, but one should at least fly the American Flag...
