My husband and I recently ate here for the first time in years. First, the service could not have been better. The prices were high and the food was not up to par. We were very disappointed. His chicken fried steak was so burned that it was visibly dark. As expected, the cook put gravy on it which covered most of the burned edges. I wanted my husband to return it, but he wouldn’t since you’re never sure what you’re gonna get from a kitchen once you’ve offended them. Even our server thought he should return it. I ordered a salad with crispy chicken on it. The salad was actually quite good, as was the chicken, except for the large piece pieces of very old ‘core’ from the lettuce. I picked them off. If the prices had been lower, I don’t think it would’ve been so disappointing but the food definitely does not make us want to return.

Now this place is MORE than a little awesome. Great staff, great food, great patrons to talk to, nice selection of beers and drinks and all in the nice city of Emporia, home to a world-famous bicycle gravel race and disc (frisbee) golf tournament and factory. #googlethatstuff. Great ribs at Wagon Wheel. The chef likes Prince and bartender Jen has a husband who she herself describes as….a man who buys a wallaby and a fire truck. And that’s all I have to say about that.

Stopped in after a high school golf tournament as we have a goal to eat local, not chain restaurants. This place has amazing service (thank you, Shelly!) and delicious food. The cheeseburgers and fries hit the spot for the ladies as the guys indulged in the Cardiac (burger on bread covered in fries and gravy). We even got to watch a little pool competition before we left. Highly recommend if you’re in the area!

We were visiting family in Sterling, KS as well as Ottowa, KS from Washington, DC, and decided to stop in Emporia for the night. We were in the mood for steak so I googled restaurants in Emporia, KS. The Wagon Wheel was one of the choices, so I read a few of the reviews. We decided to take the plunge despite some of the comments regarding curbside appeal/atmosphere. While we definitely agree it is a bit off putting when you pull up, as it is basically a wide/long shipping crate in the middle of a parking lot, this place was incredible!! They have a specific cut of steak every day and it just happened to be our favorite cut, Ribeye! While we were waiting for our food, the owner came out and we had a nice conversation with her about Emporia and Veteran's Day! Everyone was super friendly! When Our steaks came out we could barely contain ourselves. There in front of us sat the juiciest 16oz ribeyes accompanied by the smoked baked potato. I am not lying when I say this was the best steak I've ever had in my life! It was perfectly cooked and melt in your mouth, and the smoked baked potato was OMG!!! You definitely get your money's worth too. Had enough left over for another meal. When we were done with dinner and got to the hotel to check in, the front desk attendent said the restaurant had called and we had forgotten our credit card. The Wagon Wheel staff knew where we were staying from our conversation and were so nice that they brought our credit card to the hotel! Please, please, please give this local gem your business! I know we will go back every time we are...

The Wagon Wheel was recommended by a person at the hotel I was staying at. I entered the dining room and no one said one word to me. I sat down at a booth and watched as someone from the kitchen area served folks in the booths in front of and behind mine. I sat and sat and sat for about 6 minutes and no one said so much as a word to me. No one asked what I wanted or told me they would be right with me. I got up and left and am writing this review from across the street at the Chinese buffet while enjoying a very tasty Chinese dinner. I will never even walk in the Wagon wheel again, they are very rude, indifferent, and act like it’s a privilege for you to spend your money in there. If there was a “ZERO” rating that’s what they would get. Forget Wagon Wheel and get some good service across the street or at one of the many places to eat within...

Like everyone says, ignore the building. It's a junky looking metal building but what's inside makes up for it.

This is hole in the wall to perfection. Several people were well known by the staff so you can tell there are lots of repeat customers.

Ok you can laugh but I never eat $30 steaks. I'd rather grill one at home than spend that. Tonight was a special occasion and I saw the rave reviews for this place so I thought I'd give it a shot.

Damn. The Ribeye was huge, perfectly cooked, and amazingly seasoned. I hate to repeat what others have said but it was the best steak I've ever had. WORTH EVERY PENNY.

But wait there's more....the smoked (baked) potato? What?! That was out of this world! Maybe this is a thing and I just don't know about it but I've never had one and I never want to eat a regular baked potato again!

Love love...
