We were visiting family in Sterling, KS as well as Ottowa, KS from Washington, DC, and decided to stop in Emporia for the night. We were in the mood for steak so I googled restaurants in Emporia, KS. The Wagon Wheel was one of the choices, so I read a few of the reviews. We decided to take the plunge despite some of the comments regarding curbside appeal/atmosphere. While we definitely agree it is a bit off putting when you pull up, as it is basically a wide/long shipping crate in the middle of a parking lot, this place was incredible!! They have a specific cut of steak every day and it just happened to be our favorite cut, Ribeye! While we were waiting for our food, the owner came out and we had a nice conversation with her about Emporia and Veteran's Day! Everyone was super friendly! When Our steaks came out we could barely contain ourselves. There in front of us sat the juiciest 16oz ribeyes accompanied by the smoked baked potato. I am not lying when I say this was the best steak I've ever had in my life! It was perfectly cooked and melt in your mouth, and the smoked baked potato was OMG!!! You definitely get your money's worth too. Had enough left over for another meal. When we were done with dinner and got to the hotel to check in, the front desk attendent said the restaurant had called and we had forgotten our credit card. The Wagon Wheel staff knew where we were staying from our conversation and were so nice that they brought our credit card to the hotel! Please, please, please give this local gem your business! I know we will go back every time we are...
Read moreThe Wagon Wheel was recommended by a person at the hotel I was staying at. I entered the dining room and no one said one word to me. I sat down at a booth and watched as someone from the kitchen area served folks in the booths in front of and behind mine. I sat and sat and sat for about 6 minutes and no one said so much as a word to me. No one asked what I wanted or told me they would be right with me. I got up and left and am writing this review from across the street at the Chinese buffet while enjoying a very tasty Chinese dinner. I will never even walk in the Wagon wheel again, they are very rude, indifferent, and act like it’s a privilege for you to spend your money in there. If there was a “ZERO” rating that’s what they would get. Forget Wagon Wheel and get some good service across the street or at one of the many places to eat within...

This is hole in the wall to perfection. Several people were well known by the staff so you can tell there are lots of repeat customers.
Ok you can laugh but I never eat $30 steaks. I'd rather grill one at home than spend that. Tonight was a special occasion and I saw the rave reviews for this place so I thought I'd give it a shot.
Damn. The Ribeye was huge, perfectly cooked, and amazingly seasoned. I hate to repeat what others have said but it was the best steak I've ever had. WORTH EVERY PENNY.
But wait there's more....the smoked (baked) potato? What?! That was out of this world! Maybe this is a thing and I just don't know about it but I've never had one and I never want to eat a regular baked potato again!
Love love...
