Phin Smith lost a customer today.
TLDR: Manager called vietnamese customer âLOW CLASSâ.
My mom and I went to Phin Smith on 8/7 at 10:40am. As I was ordering for drinks, my mom opened and started eating a sandwich. A male Asian worker with full sleeve tattoos came by to show her the sign of no outside food allowed. My mom, who is Vietnamese and doesnât speak much English, promptly put the sandwich away. The same male worker came back again for the second time, and he proceeded to open the door and gestured her to leave as I was in line paying for drinks. My mom tried to tell him that weâre buying drinks and he finally left.
After hearing what she told me and I went back to the counter asking the worker to come back to our table to explain everything. He frankly said that we were not respecting their rules and that my mother did not apologize. I explained to him that she does not speak much English, but she understood him and put the sandwich away when asked, so for to him to continue gesturing her to leave by opening the door was not necessary and rude as we were buying drinks. He maintained that we are not respecting their rules and âthe more you keep acting like this the more people are going to think you are LOW CLASSâ. His tone was disrespectful, patronizing, and prejudiced.
This is absolutely unacceptable and disrespectful to us, especially at a Vietnamese establishment as we are Vietnamese ourselves. They have a bigot working there who looks down on a SE Asian woman. m We were not loitering, my mother understood the no outside food sign that he showed and put the sandwich away as soon as he told her, yet he still came back and gestured her to leave as I was paying. His notion that we are âLOW CLASSâ because I wanted to understand why he treated my mom that way after she promptly put the food away after the initial counter. I have supported Phin Smith since they opened, buying their products all the time. I am in shock at how this employee handled an immigrant woman who cannot...
Read moreMe and my boyfriend went into phin smith to get some coffees. We walked in and right away no one greeted us and all the customers were giving us glares because we are both people of color. We went in line looking at the menu when one of the baristaâs told us to come to her side of the bar. I told her that we didnât know what we wanted and she rudely tells us there is a menu with her that we can look at. Right away you can tell the 2 baristas helping us weâre fearful for some reason that we were going to do something to them. We were talking to them in a nice, polite way, and werenât rude back them. When I ordered my coffee I said the wrong name and one of the 2 baristas right away was rude saying they donât serve the coffee I thought the name was. I always ask for no whip on my drinks when I asked the first time neither of them answered. I said it again when they were done writing on the cups and the same woman that was being rude was rude once again and told me in a weirdly harsh way that that donât serve whip cream. Me and my boyfriend were waiting for our drinks when a customer came in and was talking about a missing wallet. The manager saw me and my boyfriend talking, she gave us a glare and went to lock the front door. When the manager walked back to the kitchen and was standing where they thought we wouldnât see them staring but they were there until we left the store. I have never experienced such unwelcoming customer service, and also getting the same experience from the...
Read moreExperience/Environment: Located in a complex with three maybe four other businesses, but this place by far is the busiest. Limited parking outside so you may have to park in the overflow lot, past Yamaha, but worth it.
When you walk inside, it looks like thereâs enough seating but itâs always full lol. Thatâs because this place is that good! Anywhere where thereâs a Lego as decor is perfect for me.
My first time was a week ago and Iâve been here four times since, including this morning.
Price: Drinks are $6 average each. Cookies/bread loaf/scones are $2-$5 each
Food/Drink: Iâm not huge on stepping out of my comfort zone but Iâm so glad I did. Only thing Iâve had is the peanut butter coffee and Iâm all about it.
FYI, you can control the sweetness, add extra shots if you want to, and if you like banana flavor with your peanut butter, they can do that too!
Service: Paul helped me my first visit and answered a bunch of my questions while I was deciding what to order. Him and everyone that has helped me since are all super kind.
NTT [[Next Time Try]]: The peanut butter coffee and I are going steady now so Iâll stick with that. But I do want to ask if they have gluten-free options for their pastries selection.
Donât walk, run! Thank me later ;) Smile, eat, hydrate. Live honest and donât settle. Hope to see you...
