The Malt Shop is the first place my now-wife and I went on our first date or hangout. This place will forever make me smile when I drive by it.
Recently, my childhood friends bought the Malt Shop from their parents (who have owned and run it for 70 years 🤯), and they are not only continuing the tradition but also making fantastic improvements.
Bradie has recently added gluten-free shakes to the menu, and GF food will be coming soon. She’s going to source the same buns used at Dairy Keen in Heber. They’re made by Mrs. Hewitts and are the best gluten-free buns.
The malt shop could be the cleanest restaurant in Ephraim. They steam clean the floors like daily. They take cleanliness very seriously, which I appreciate.
Lastly, the burgers, fries, and shakes are the best. The last time I was there, I got the King Burger, and it didn’t disappoint. If you want the best shake, ask for the “Kevin.” Jk, that's not a real thing, but it’s my favorite: vanilla, Snickers, and a little bit of root beer… Trust me....

They also do milkshakes, which the kids love, and can create pretty much any shake your imagination can come up with. The shake flavors list on the menu are a great place to start, and we typically get one for each member of the family - since no one likes to share!
So, for me the shakes are 5-Stars, but the food they provide is 3-Stars; so 4-Stars overall. Not that the food is "wrong", but when you find you way to a small diner in Ephraim Utah, I immediately thought that you would be getting more fresh food, prepared in the back...But, no. The rest of the food is prepackaged, and seems to be reheated as you wait for 8-15min for your food. Nothing even special about the fries or burgers, which was disappointing.
With this in mind, we will continue to stop for a shake after a meal, but until they get the rest of the food figured out, we can experience a McDonald's type burger over at the...

The service was very friendly and helpful. There was an error in our order and they were quick to correct it.
I ordered the bacon cheese burger and sweet potato fries. My daughter ordered a cheese burger and regular fries. Then we both ordered shakes too. I had the chunky rocky road and she had chocolate.
The burgers were pretty tasty. They were a good size and tasted fresh. They both had a lot of mayo though. So if you don’t love mayo, maybe tell them to hold off.
The fries were pretty tasty. Fry sauce was good.
Shakes were pretty tasty but I was a little disappointed. It was vanilla ice cream (not chocolate) with chocolate chips and nuts. It did have a lot of the chips and nuts, which was good. The chocolate chips however were chalky and didn’t taste great. My daughter loved her chocolate shake.
I’d probably visit again but maybe try a different...
