I've lived in escanaba for half of my life and I remember when Hereford and hops was one of the best places to go in town. I haven't been in quite since time and my husband suggested we go. We came on a Friday so I figured a deep fried perch dinner would be great. I ordered it with sweet potato fries and was given regular fries. The perch was a bit fishy for my liking and the batter was mushy. Not crunchy in the slightest. The fish was actually sitting in a puddle of water, which makes me wonder if it was just frozen and thrown in the fryer. It was terrible. My six year old daughter ordered the kids deep fried shrimp and it was mushy as well and sitting in a puddle which really turned her off. I told the waitress and she said she would let the kitchen know for next time. What! There isn't going to be a next time for us considering when the check came she charged me for the regular perch dinner instead of the Friday perch special. She said it was because I didn't tell her I wanted the Friday special. I didn't know there was such a thing and she didn't even mention there were two options. Like I am supposed to know the entire menu. As a former waitress, you always ask if you want the special or the dinner. The difference between the two was three dollars and a side salad. When I worked at restaurants that had Friday fish specials, they always include a salad and side. The service was really not impressive at all and the food was even worse. Definitely not worth the near hundred bucks we spent tonight. Hereford and hops, do better. When a customer has a legitimate complaint about the food it should be fixed or compensated, they shouldn't be told they'll let the kitchen know for next time. My advice, pick another place. My experience...
Read moreYour gluten free pizza is the best in town! Only downside this evening I got green peppers instead of spinach. Still beyond delicious so no complaints. My husband ordered from Dominoes and he was so impressed with my pizza texture and taste, he will be ordering his from here from now on. My 2nd favorite dish is the strawberry cashew salad. Since I have lots of food allergies I appreciate quality food that taste’ good. That was one of the things I really appreciated about the Mongolian bar. Maybe consider bringing it back. I know others were disappointed to see it go.
As always Judy gives 5 star service, whether she’s at the bar or serving food!!!!
Lastly, you are known for being a 5 star restaurant in this town, your awnings are definitely in need of replacement. Even with the beautiful flowers in the windows, sadly the worn out awnings is very noticeable. Just thought I would mention.
FYI: I did not grow up in this town, but I am hearing you have an old speakeasy in the building. I absolutely love History, it would be so cool to open it up to private parties, tours or theme nights. Keeping with the era of the times who wouldn’t love a roaring 20’s party? Just a...
Read moreWe were visiting from Louisiana and we took my mom to celebrate her 90th birthday. There were 7 of us including 2 children (age 1 year and 3 years). We got in shortly after 6:30 on a Friday evening, but there were very few people in the restaurant. The waitress came to take our drink order and then15 to 20 minutes later, she brought most of our drinks, but not all of them. It took 30 minutes before she even took our order, which should have given us a clue that this was not going to be good. We ordered appetizers and entrees. The appetizers took another 45 minutes to come out and after the appetizers, it was another 45 minutes before our entrees arrived.( And several of the orders were incorrect) We asked several times if it was possible for the macaroni and cheese for the kids to be brought out, since the kids were so hungry. And she just said it would all come out at the same time. All in all, I think we spent just short of 3 hours there. We did talk to the manager that was there that night, but I felt we were gaslighted by both the manager and our waitress. Unfortunately, we will never return to this restaurant again. The food was good, but the service...
