I Smell Bacon — Restaurant in Eufaula

Found myself in Eufaula at lunch time today. Saw this hole in the wall restaurant as I was driving by and turned around to check it out.

The interior is decorated with bacon themed t-shirts, mugs etc. Small town diner vibe with plenty of locals coming in for lunch. A lot of people were ordering the chicken pot pie but I had my sights on something else.

Today we have chicken fried steak. This was incidentally also the priciest item on their menu.

I was given the option to order it with

1. breakfast option which came with 2 eggs your way, hash browns and biscuits and gravy or toast

2. lunch option with a side and roll.

I picked option 1. Eggs sunny side up. The chicken fried steak looked glorious taking up half the plate and covered in white gravy. This was cooked to order so it was not sitting around getting soggy. It came with a steak knife which was needed for this bad boy. Cutting into it the knife bit through the perfectly crispy batter and released a cloud of steam from the inside a thick cut steak that had been pounded and physically tenderized to perfection. This is exactly how all chicken fried steaks should be prepared and served. This is the gold standard. The eggs were perfect. The hash browns crispy. Not everything was nirvana however. The gravy was good but slightly lacking in flavor and my biscuits were ever so slightly underdone as can be seen in my pictures as they weren't done browning.

Overall I definitely stop by again and order it again but next time with the lunch option to change things...

Love this place I go here anytime I have time to get there. The service is amazing. The food is excellent. Ok I would like to edit this review. Recently I was given a dog and we just passed being a service dog. She is only 5 pounds and is the love of my life. She has helped me overcome suck sorrow in my life !! I stopped in sat around 11 to get some breakfast and I left her best and cards at home since I just received them. I walk in and the lady asked if she was a service dog and I said yes she asked to see papers and I said they are at home since we came out to deliver something and I forgot them. I drive across country and eat at different places all over the country. I have never been asked this and never been treated like this before !!! I have eaten at this place about 10 times and this is before I received my service dog !!! Wow she embarrassed me in front of the whole restaurant !!! So needless to say. No more business from me. !!!! She was rude !!! ADA. Might be...

Good things come to those who wait. There was about a 25 minute wait for is to get a table, and there are outdoor tables at which to sit while you wait. You can wait in the shade, or in the sun. There were five in our group, and it was a bit of a tight squeeze in the corner table where we were seated. There are T-shirts for sale so you can say, "I smelled bacon in Eufala, OK." I ordered the ham omelette with hash browns, and biscuits/gravy. I'm finicky when it comes to my hash browns, and I'm telling you...these were perfect! The waitress kept my coffee full and hot, and took excellent care of us while we were there. It's the last exit going north out of Eufala on US 69, or the first exit going into Eufala on south 69.
