Let me start by saying had I ordered takeout and eaten at home my rating would likely be a little higher. That said we dined in and the air was very thick with the scent of oil and the air quality wasn't great. Both I and another member of my party coughed pretty much the entire time we were in there but were fine once we walked outside and got fresh air.
The dining area was empty when we arrived but there was a table of uneaten food and dirty dishes that wasn't cleared when the last guests left and that didn't get cleared while we were there.
The chips that were brought out were very good but the salsa was bland. The four types of tacos that we ordered were all just okay. They come on double stacked corn tortillas that soak through and fall apart fairly quickly. To me all of the meats lacked flavor. The steak burrito was the best tasting item we got but it too lacked flavor. We also tried a pupusa and again, nomreal flavor though the shell was a nice texture. There's a very spicy red sauce and a less spicy green sauce that are brought out with the food and with the addition of one or the other the food will take on some flavor but aside from those bottled sauces everything seems to be lacking flavor.
It's not somewhere I'd go again but another member of my party said they'd give it...
Read more¡Esto es auténtico! We moved from San Diego, CA a couple years ago and have had a hard time finding legit Mexican food. This place is IT! Our family is so happy!! It was like walking into Lucha Libre, Ranchos, or something-berto's taco shop. Menu items are exactly what we would have back home. We got carne asada street tacos, and enchiladas verdes... took one bite and the flavors were so so good and spot on. Friendly people, simple interior and great menu, like the real authentic Mexican food places in SD. I respect other Mexican food places' efforts here, food is "ok" but there was always something off with the spices or marinade, or lack thereof. Think shredded rotisserie chicken with salsa. And it's interesting to see dia de los Muertos decor in Mexican restaurants here which we didn't see at home. Hot Taco does not need any of that because the flavor and textures speak for itself. When our family and friends come to visit this is our go-to spot. So grateful that we found Hot Taco and we live...
Read moreThis place was monumentally disappointing. I went based on the positive reviews but it was so off putting that I was too afraid to eat the food I purchased. Like others mentioned the vents must not work - or exist, because the greasy smell is overwhelming and makes absolutely EVERYTHING smell! I couldn’t even take my carry out in the car, I had to put it in the trunk it reeked of grease so bad! There is even a haze inside the building. The woman who took my order and checked me out was curt and unpleasant, which would not have been a problem had the food been good, but it just added to overall unpleasant experience. The building is gross and the door handle was sticky. Even after all that I decided to give the food a chance but my pupusa was burnt and it was so soggy. I also got a baleadas which just seemed like a soggy greasy mess. I couldn’t bring myself to try either. Vile. I would never go there again. I’m not quite sure how the building is up to code or in good standing with the...
