We've been to many BBQ places in MO, AR, IL, MN, TX, and now IN. Some of the best food we have had has been at the little mom and pop "hole in the walls" in the older parts of town that aren't part of a national chain. Not today. We had tried another BBQ place in town over the weekend and on our way back through looked for a second one. (You can never have too much BBQ!). After reading the other google reviews, we were very excited about going to the Hickory Pit Stop. I'm not sure what happened, but the room temperature BBQ platters that we were served couldn't have been from the same place that comes so highly rated on google or has all those trophies on the wall. The pulled pork was not pulled, shredded, or even completely pork. It was corn kernel sized pieces of some good tasting pork, some larger, but mostly just fat. We "upgraded" our Robert E. Lee platter from pork and ribs to pork and turkey (and also ordered a turkey sandwich platter). Any other BBQ we have had, the turkey looked, felt, and tasted like it was smoked with slices carved straight off the breast of the bird. Our two platters came out with super thin, round slices that were more akin to an oscar meyer pressed turkey loaf lunchmeat slices. There was no meat "texture" or grain to it at all, just really soft slices of sweet tasting I don't know what. We were simply speechless. PBJ was good, chicken strips were good, even the bacon cheeseburger was really good. The BBQ though, the WHOLE reason we came in, was possibly the most disappointing meat we've had at a BBQ place. I'm sorry for the review guys, I really hope this was just an off...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe food was good. The BBQ was delicious though. I felt it needed a rub on it though to add to the great cook on the meat. I got a beef sandwich and the bread was very soggy from how juicy the beef was (I like juicy beef) the bread probably needs to be butter toasted (on a skillet perhaps add garlic to the butter) to make it easier to handle. The food is cheap which is amazing! I think an extra buck could be added to the price to help elevate the dishes.
I know itās rated #1 in Evansville, but itās Evansville. There arenāt many good BBQ places so itās not a very high bar to pass as #1.
The building is very dark and cluttered. I noticed they added led lights around the trim which helps. However more lighting is needed.
The outside did not look like a restaurant. It needs a bit of a face lift. But I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of meat coming from such a place.
They do have an app which is very nice I think the photography couldāve been better. Overall itās nice...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHands down, the single best BBQ I've ever had in my life.
I asked what the waitresses favorite item was and she recommended the chicken, as it had just come off the smoker. By God, it was the most juicy, flavorful, smoky piece of chicken I've had. I wept silently, thinking of all the times I thought I had good bbq before. What a fool I was. Luckily, there were plenty of napkins to dry my eyes off with to continue enjoying.
The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the restaurant was clean.
Anyone in even an hour's drive of this place should come and visit, as it was a divine gift for me to stumble upon it and it will haunt my dreams, as I crave it till the next time I'm...
