JD Caribbean Restaurant — Restaurant in Evansville

I ordered here through Door Dash, and my first dasher left the restaurant without my order. When it arrived with the second dasher, I saw why. Both orders were not sealed and the bags were full of sauce. The dasher advised she said something to the restaurant employee about it, and he was very rude with her. In addition to the food being packed very sloppily, it was not very good. My husband and I both love oxtails when properly prepared. It is a tough cut and needs to be simmered or stewed for an extended amout of time to break down the collagen and tenderize the meat. (I cook them in the IP) These were some of the toughest oxtails I have ever been served. The "plantains" were tostones. I know it's the same plant, but the name varies based on preperation. When I am expecting plantains, I want the extra ripe, fried, sweet version. I gave two stars because the rice and peas (beans) were good and tasted authentic. Everyone can have an off day, and maybe that was the case with our order, but I would not reorder from here based on...

I thought I would try something new. Such a bad idea. I ordered the fried pork all day meal, the meat was over cooked and so dry and chewy, very hard to eat. The plantains were also really dry with no sweetness to them felt like I was eating cardboard. The mac n cheese had so much oil in them no cheese, there was no peppers or onions on top of the meat. The rice and beans was a nice size but no flavor at all. The meat had no flavor. I'm not sure if someone was having a bad day or what. My meal looked nothing like the pictures on here. I'm not sure if I will order from them again. I don't know how they got a high rating. My experience was not very good. I hope I don't get sick from there food that is how bad it was. I may try again in the future bit as of right now....

Today was my first time ordering from the restaurant. I ordered the fried turkey (they were out of chicken) and was skeptical that it would be dry but it wasn't. It was actually very good! The portions were huge and the meal came with fried plantains, mac and cheese, red beans and rice, and some type of spicy slaw. Got to watch out for that slaw, it'll catch you off guard with the heat but it is very good. Not realizing how big the portions were I also ordered the vegetable (beef) soup (Saturdays only). It was very good as well. I'm glad I stopped in today and will definitely go back.

SIDENOTE: It does take some time to get your food, I imagine it's because it's being cooked fresh. Just enjoy the wait knowing you will be getting hot, fresh, and...
