I had high expectation becuase I was told they had good food. We rode 1 hour and 41 minutes to have lunch here. We arrive it's a party of 20 ppl. We go inside, we get greeted, and we ask to sit outside on the patio first thing the lady tells us is we have no hard alcohol only beer we are ok next thing you can't smoke outside nor in the parking lot ok.the day was a bit chill but sun was nice and toasty we went to open the umbrella lady came don't open the umbrella wind might blow them ok. We understood she was short staffed. I believe her her son and chef we weren't in a hurry she took our drink order we look all the other tables had there drinks except us we'll someone from my table went inside and came back with the drinks because obviously they were a bit behind. So she took our order. I asked for a chicken ceaser salad, and the gator bites.when my order arrived my chicken looked different color and taste was gamie as if it was the fajita chicken that come in frozen section of a supermarket.gator bites tasted also weird my friend got the chicken breast sandwiche and it looked like it was raw she went and told them she was not happy and didn't want it to take it back lady came and said that the chicken was not raw that they purchase a premium pre cooked chicken and that they heat it up. My mouth just dropped. How can your menu say chicken breast, but you're giving us Porcessed pre-cooked chicken and that she would make another we told her we didn't want anything she still went and put the order and made again at which point my friend didn't eat it. we asked for our checks she added a 20%gratuity remind you we had to get up and get our drinks service was horrible not to mention the food to the point we had ppl who had not received there food and already complaining and the lady was catching attitude.so I went inside to ask her for my credit card and she told me next time you guys come you need to call ahead and in my head I was im sorry but we will not be returning remind you the place was empty when we got there and she was turning customers away because she was overwhelmed with the large group we then figured out she was the owner again I asked for my credit card she said I gave it to you I said ma'am you did not turns out she put on the wrong table So, saying that I won't be returning, it's unfortunate because the restaurant has a cute vibe, but the food needs more work and service needs more personnel, and the prices are outrages the menu prices on these reviews are not correct I paid $59 for 1 beer $6 chicken ceaser salad $18 gator bites $23 plus the 20%gratuity ohh remember that chicken sandwich we said we didnt want well she gave us the bill $30 1 beer chicken sandwiche plus the 20% gratuity I don't recommend this place at all If you're going to use pre-cooked meats, you should put them in your menu so customers are aware
and management, please, don't say that gator meat is expensive we know that if money was the issue I wouldn't have ordered it. but money isn't the issue. Here, the issue is the quality of food and service. I could've gotten better gator bites in Miami with better service Everything is expensive, but if you want 20% gratuity, you have to go above and beyond, and you didn't do that, and yeah, it discloses gratuity on your menu.
reason why you do that is because you don't push enough business in that area. I'm pretty sure customers would tip if they get great service, but you lack the service
Replying back to the owner ma'am, please sell your business. Obviously, you don't get the big picture your business runs on tourists, and ppl like me who love to travel and explore new places you telling me you was going to refuse a big group because you have no staff. use the the reviews to to help your business WOW I'm speechless with your response Good Luck ohh by the way I don't smoke by the way but your approach to us came as if you were dealing with children...
Read moreSo we wanted to give this place a try due to it having 4.7 stars we were excited to have some fresh local good food.. we are from Ft. Myers...so we are not "tourists"
At first hand signs say seat yourself so we found a cozy spot and sat on down.
We started with a new waiter 'in training ' Never got his name as he just started immediately asking for our drink orders... 1 sweet tea 2 Arnold Palmers
The 1st NON sweet tea arrives and we are told drink dispenser is in between cleanings for SWEET TEA so we wait...
We then moments later recieve 2 Sweet Teas....
None of the drinks were right, but we didn't get upset ... we understood he was new... we then order our appetizers or begin too because the boy suddenly disappeared and we now have a female older woman waitress who is seemingly the owner... she rapid fire takes our appetizer order then walks off.. then just a few moments after asked if we are only ordering apps.. we said no she then says well tell me...lol
We give her our full orders and stated we wanted to order food to go she said later.. took our menus we asked to keep one and were still not left one...
She then begins to round the table telling us the right way to eat the rice and beans..(we are Hispanic mind you) The Gator bites and shrimp tostones were the best thing we tried though all of the dishes looked quite lovely and presentable the flavor was significantly lacking... as for the lobster and steak plate the steak was overcooked and underseasoned and the lobster was also over cooked with no flavor and quite rubbery .... our grouper sandwiches were seriously just Flavorless and so soggy... The fries were not bad!
Portions and quality considering Pricing was just not there.. Im always willing to pay good money for great food! This wasn't it one of our people was told they eat too slow..lol
Then we were asked why we were leaving steak and lobster on the plate and told to take it we politely said no like 3 times...
Should hire more EXPIERIENCED front staff and work on truly pouring their Cuban flavor into that food such potential.... as a Hispanic myself SWFL has...
Read moreWe were in Everglade City on a Roads Scholar tour. The tour prearranged dinner reservations at three different local restaurants, there was one open night where we had to make our own choice. So thankful we chose Captain Morgan’s. The family owned restaurant welcomed us as if we were just that, family. That may sound corny but there was a feeling of genuine warmth as we were greeted at the front door. The restaurant is brightly lite. Care was taken to seat us where we would be most comfortable. The Cuban-themed menu was appreciated as our favorite Cuban restaurant in Rhode Island had closed several years ago. We were pleasantly surprised by the larger wine list and that local draft IPAs were available over bottled beer. I wish I’d already reached my goal weight when it came time to make a dinner selection. The illustrated online men had piqued my interest in the wild caught shrimp tostones. The dish came with an abundant serving of fresh shrimp, resting on a bed of sauced fried plantains. I also enjoyed a bowl of what had to be some of the best black bean soup I’d ever encountered. So many layers of flavor in that one bowl. When the grouper fish sandwiches were served you could tell they were absolutely fresh and hot. They presented as if they could be the poster child for any menu. The service was wonderful. The family engaged us, joked with us without hovering or being intrusive. Fortunately the Rum Flan and Tres Leche cake were available to be shared between the four of us. Perfectly complimenting the Cuban Expresso. It was a delightful dining experience. There is clear statement in the menu that a 20% gratuity is attached to every meal, BUT, that gratuity is well deserved. Everglades City has many good restaurants, I encourage everyone to make sure you experience the food and hospitality of...
