Edit: 8.10.22 I received a call from the Shrimp Basket’s main office. I wish I could remember the girl’s name. She was concerned and wanted to know all about the visit and problems, taking notes on everything I told her. She was very apologetic. She offered me a gift certificate for a Shrimp Basket closer to home. I accepted and look forward to visiting soon. I fully expect a good experience. I cannot give Evergreen’s Shrimp Basket more stars. But I give Shrimp Basket as a company and other restaurants I’ve visited 5 stars. 🌟
My husband and I were traveling from our home in Gulf Shores to Birmingham. Shrimp Basket is one of our favorite places in Gulf Shores, so we decided to stop for some catfish and gumbo. We were one of 2 couples there. I ordered a drink while we finalized our menu choices. We were ready to place the order, but our server was busy chatting with the 2 other servers, one of whom was the manager. About 5 minutes later she brought my drink and took our order. After 20 minutes, I went up to ask about our order. She said it was ‘coming out now.’ 10 minutes later my husband went up to cancel the order, as we had not gotten it yet. The order was coming out at that point, so we accepted it. When I asked about the problem, the explanation we got was that our order had been thrown away. Newly arrived guests had someone in their party who was allergic to shrimp. The staff thought it I was the one with the allergy. No one bothered to tell us of the problem. When the server brought the food, I asked if the manager was there. With a bit of an attitude, she pointed and said ,”She’s the girl over there. Why? Is there anything wrong with your food? Does it taste bad?” In the end, my husband’s meal was discounted 50%. The manager never came to apologize or ask if everything was made right. We will never stop here again. I intend on having a chat with the people in Gulf Shores to see if this is the norm for restaurants north of the...
Read moreI just walked out of the restaurant having eaten lunch there today. First time ever at this place. Just passing through the area from Texas and going to South Carolina. I chose the Blackened red fish with shrimp sauce. The picture in the online menu shows a bed of rice, fillet of fish, sauce, and a big handful of popcorn shrimp. That is not what I received. The shrimp was totally missing. I swirled the sauce around with my spoon to see if I could find any pieces of shrimp. I couldn't even find that, much less big whole pieces of shrimp as shown in the menu picture. A staff member, possibly a manager, stopped at my table to ask how things were and I told her that it was missing the shrimp. I said the picture shows a lot of shrimp on top of the fish. She said she would go back and get some more sauce and make sure there were shrimp. She brought back a small container of more of the sauce and she said the cook made sure there was shrimp in it. After she left I poured some on and found I had exactly the same as I had before. No shrimp. By scrounging through the sauce I found tiny slivers of shrimp and crawfish. And when I say slivers, that's exactly what they were. The Blackened Redfish was very good and cooked very well. The bed of rice was almost inedible. So much of it was hard and crunchy. I ended up having to discreetly spit it out into my napkin over and over again. The sauce tasted great. But if they're going to have a menu item shown with a large handful of what looks like grilled shrimp on it then that's what they need to serve. There was so much potential there --everything could have been great and I could have given a five-star. Instead, I gave a two-star because what I received was not what was advertised and part of the meal was improperly cooked. I can't say anything about any other items at the restaurant and since I'm on a trip I'm more than likely will never be...
Read moreTo start with The service was horrible, Our waitress took 15 minutes before she came by and took our drink orders. When i told her that "We have never been here before" she looked pissed off. It took 10 more minutes before she took our food order. She was visibly frustrated with my questions which were simple questions. I asked what the sauces were, I got answers like spicy i asked what it tasted like and she returned with spicy. UGGGG that's not a flavor profile. I asked if the shrimp was peel and eat or shelled and deveined. She told me it was only peel and eat if it says it was peel and eat. I ordered a dish that did not say it was peel and eat. It arrived to my table needing to be peeled. The white fish was mushy and bland and cold, the hush puppies were overcooked and could break windows. The stuffed crab claws had no crab, I thought the mixed it with the crab and put it back in like normal people. The waitress spilled sweet tea from her pitcher on my phone as she poured over it, not just a few drops but enough that my phone hasn't worked right since. I moved my phone and wrapped it in the paper towels they have sitting on the table. She came from the other side and filled my fiances glass and spilled tea on my fiances glasses sitting on the table. Before we left she spilled a tray full of drinks at the door going to the patio, five or six cups from what i could see. No one for the remaining 15 minutes there did anything other pick up the cups, the fluid and ice just sat there. Cant prove it was them but the next day my butt hole waged war on the toilets with a display that would of put Iraq's shock and awe to shame. I only suspect it was them because of the oiliness of it...
