Best Brunswick Stew EVER! That's where it stops being good. They just moved into their new location and obviously have some growing pains going on. The service was downright awful..Some girl seated us at a table AND we waited..finally a different girl showed up to take our order..then another different girl came out to tell us there was no cheese for the cheese grits... "Um..we didn't order cheese grits." Her response.."What DID you order?" Again we said "A bowl of Brunswick Stew, a loaded baked potato, and a side of onion rings." 10 minutes later...she returned to tell us they were out of potatoes..ok pulled pork sandwich is fine.. eventually the onion rings and sandwich get served by still a DIFFERENT girl...and then our original waitress walks up and says "Do you still want the stew?" Well YES it's my dinner! We asked to see if Candi could come to the table just to tell her how great the stew was "as per her usual" but eventually we even gave up on that. Asked for water with lemon..had to go to the bar and get my own lemon... and strangely it was placed wet and gooey in my hand.. not even a napkin...much less a dish. The whole visit was just a cluster with very young and untrained girls working. I hope they can get it together...sometimes the smaller location is better. The food...very very good! Thank...

I was really excited to visit this place after finding it for the first time just the other day. Looks like a nice quiet little spot which I love...The thing that ruined this visit for me was the waitress. Zero personality and that's giving her a little bit.. barely spoke to even take our order. Felt more like a bother being there. The food was good and came out quickly, but the waitress ruined this. Only reason I didn't get up and walk out was that I was super hungry and didn't want to wait anywhere else.. we finished eating our meal and we're discussing dessert , but once again Mrs no personality walks up and plops the check on the table without asking if we wanted anything else or dessert. Also wanted to get another drink , but that burned me and I was just ready to leave. She was the blonde waitress. I think her name was something along the lines for cortna or something.. She is reason enough that I probably wouldn't go back...For the tip I was going to write get a personality or find another job, but my date was kinder than I am..The other waitresses looked friendly and I saw them smiling and laughing and interacting with customers so it would probably be a pleasant experience without the unfriendly...

We have visited the shack several times in the evening and the food has always been top notch delicious 😋 We had lunch there today and I was beyond disappointed. We paid over 80.00 for 3 people to eat. ( we don't mind that price at all IF the food is well prepared) my granddaughter had the brisket plate and she said it was really good. My husband had salmon and he said it was barely edible. I had the Alfredo and I am disappointed to say that it was THE ABSOLUTE WORST Alfredo I have ever tried to eat. I ate 2 bites and that was enough!!! The sauce was totally bland..not one smidgen of seasoning, which Alfredo only has butter, cream, garlic and parm.. this sauce tasted like butter and flour... that's it.. zero taste.. yuk!! The noodles were a soggy mess and my little teeny shrimp tasted like they had been run thru some hot water to thaw and thrown on the plate. I don't know who was cooking but they need to rethink the Alfredo totally!! I DID eat my Texas toast. A bright note to our visit..our little waitress was very friendly and prompt!! We were happy to leave...

We were lucky to find The Shack on our trip back to Nashville from Gulf Shores! My wife and I both ordered the Slaw Slammer, which is a pulled pork BBQ sandwich with coleslaw on it (it’s traditional to serve a BBQ pork sandwich with coleslaw in many parts of the South, including Memphis, where I grew up), served on butter-grilled Texas Toast. And the coleslaw was my favorite variety - finely-diced, and dry enough. Maybe I was just really hungry, but I’d rate this among the top 3 or 4 BBQ sandwiches I’ve had! The baked beans and French fries were also top-notch, as was the sweet tea. The service was wonderful. The waitresses were very friendly and gracious, and came by our table to see our son (5 mos old), who tried BBQ baked beans for the first time (loved them, of course - see photo). We also enjoyed the restaurant building itself, which was rustic, and decorated with antiques inside and out. Definitely look forward to stopping in again next time we’re in South Alabama!

We found The Shack on Google on our way home from Orange Beach. The food was absolutely the best. I had the Hand Breaded shrimp with Cole slaw, and Cheese Grits. The shrimp was the best I have ever had. Slaw and Grits were perfect. We got to talk to Tina the owner and she was so sweet. It’s a place we plan to stop by on our trips to Orange Beach. Jamie This is Jamie’s wife and I also wanted to comment on how much I enjoyed my Brisket sandwich, baked beans and grits. I’m on a diet and was going to only eat half and save half for dinner but it was so delicious I had to eat every bite. I did however give my husband some of the beans because I knew how much he would love them. The waitress was very good and it was the first time we ever asked to speak to the owner to compliment her on the food, fun atmosphere and the whole experience. Joanie

This is a great roadside BBQ joint! So much character. Great BBQ and you can carry out bulk orders too (a gallon of brunswick stew for example). Tons of antiques to look at on the walls. Very friendly and hardworking servers. Quick service. I had the pulled pork "Big Pig" sandwich with baked beans and southern cole slaw and it was all excellent. June 2025 Update! The Shack has moved and is at a new location in a brand new, super nice restaurant building. They have expanded the menu, and very reasonable prices. Same fantastic bbq and excellent service provided by Madison, our server. This time I had the Smoked Butt Plate and it was more food than I could eat. One of the best barbeque restaurants in Alabama in my experience. Highly recommend this family owned and operated restaurant, The Shack!
