We fondly recall knowing first hand why Tommy Drummond’s business won so much appreciation from locals and awards. We are eager for warm spring and summer days when The Trolley is open again and we can enjoy being out on Lake Minnetonka in a canoe.
Naturally, it’s so handy and fitting to nab some Sebastian Joe's Ice Cream. Our sunny memories shorten the winter days. Tommy, who has owned Tommy's Tonka Trolley, has been exceptional in helping us make arrangements even when he was swamped. We made every effort to be on time both picking up our canoe and returning at the time he requested.
I think he made everyone his family, especially those who shared his love for Excelsior; MN’s unique shopping, being out on the lake, and joy in Minnesota summers. He had the biggest heart and took personal joy in helping others dip their oar into the waters.
Tonka Trolley is also a reliable source for kayak and paddleboard rentals. His generous smile alone made the business experience incredible. While we enjoy a steamboat, sailboat, and classic boat rides immensely, these puts you the closest to the water and we so enjoy the lake this way. There we are quietly moving among the loons with a dog in the canoe, who was so pleased he obeyed every command and his eyes echoed our pleasure. At other times, if we’re still and quite long enough, we even saw a fish jump and a beaver paddle by.
You can’t beat renting a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard for the low cost and high amount of pleasure one gains.
We’ll miss Tommy, himself, but carry on loving the outdoors and...
Read moreLast year, I had the chance to rent some paddleboards through Tommy's Tonka Trolley with my friends and it was a fantastic experience out on lake minnetonka, and for that I'll give it an extra star. The renting experience was quick and affordable.
The reason I'm giving this 2 stars is because of what happened during the renting experience. We were each given "unsinkable paddles", great right? Well unfortunately a large wave knocked me off the paddleboard and after the few seconds it took for me to emerge from the water, I noticed the hilt of the paddle sticking straight out of the water and slowly sinking straight down. As I drifted away, the paddle sank straight down in a matter of seconds.
This was a bummer and I was ready to accept that it was partially my fault for letting a wave knock me off, and I should be ready to pay to replace the paddle. I made it back to Tommy's and the owner himself let me know that since the unsinkable paddle itself sank, it was my fault and I had to fork over a whopping $100. I looked up the brand of the paddle and saw it listed for $40 however I was being charged over double for something that shouldn't have even happened since apparently the paddles are unsinkable..
Owner doesn't seem to really care about the customer and wants to profit off of mistakes and for that I most likely will...
Read moreWas excited to come here for a cute date on a Friday afternoon. Saw the lights on and was excited for a hotdog and an ice cream only to sit there for 15 minutes wondering if the place was actually open. Popcorn was popped so I just assumed whoever was working has something better to do. I would’ve been more than happy to return if a sign was up letting customers know about the delay, but instead my date ended up going a different direction. Very disappointing from the place with apparently the best ice cream in the...
