First of all, I don't like leaving bad reviews. If I get great food and service I leave great reviews. Today was not one of those experiences. My husband wanted to take me out for my birthday dinner and since we were in the area for another reason, (about 45 minute drive for us) I suggested we try Stoppers. They were highly recommended to me. After we got over the sticker shock (we had thought about leaving but decided to give them a try) We are both on a limited income ( I just retired in October and he is on disability), so our money isn't spent like this often...only special occasions) We ordered onion rings as an appetizer. My husband questioned the waitress about what oil they used and she told them vegetable oil. He told her it tasted old. She told us they change the oil once a week. I don't know what the going timeframe is for oil but it seemed a bit long....but what do I know. We both ordered the Ribeye steak with 5 coconut shrimp added extra with baked potato and salad. My potato size was decent, his was very small, and they were both lukewarm. The salads consisted of romaine lettuce and a slice of tomato (I would think they would be a bit more ....maybe some cucumber, onion, or even croutons) The shrimp was cooked so hard that we couldn't eat it and the waitress took them back and deducted them from our bill. The steaks.....I ordered mine medium well, his was medium. Both were rather bland...like they forgot any seasonings at all and were definitely not hot. Our bill came to $80 with tip! We definitely will not be going back....Had the food not cost so much I probably would have...
Read moreWent for Valentines Day with a 7PM reservation. We were seated at 7.00. Ordered our food at 7:15. We sat till 8:30 till we got our food. (The chairs are not very comfortable) At first, we were not given an excuse for why we didn't have food yet. (Actually, we were being avoided) Finally, our table and another were told that the kitchen was behind. Both tables ordered at the same time. The main dining room had about 6 tables of people. The rush mostly left by 7:15. When we finally got food, we had a half hour to eat and get out. They closed at 9:00 pm. Both tables got their food at the same time. Nothing was done to compensate for the extremely long wait time for food. They could have at least given us free desert, especially with a $237.00 bill and a $48 tip. The food was excellent, but I don't know that I will make that mistake again. We should have paid for our drinks and left. This was not our first time here, so this is not the norm. But to have such a long wait go unacknowledged by the management is just bad business. I felt bad for the other couple that was paying for a babysitter. They were late getting back home. By the time we got our food, there were only the two other couples in the room with us, left in the whole restaurant. They were cleaning around us for the close. It wasn't a great romantic experience as the chaos of the cleaning and the staff yelling about someone abusing the vacuum just...
Read moreMy husband and I had dinner here for the first time tonight. We both ordered the filet mignon. It comes with two sides. I chose broccoli and a baked potato and my husband chose Cajun rice and a baked potato. The baked potatoes are small and the prepackaged sour cream and butter detract from the presentation. The broccoli portion was small and was just frozen broccoli heated up. No seasoning. For a $35 dish, I would have expected more flavor for the sides. My husband said the Cajun rice was quite tasty!
Side Salads and table bread are not offered. Garlic bread can be purchased as an appetizer.
The steaks were good. 10 oz portions. Mine was undercooked and had to go back to the grill for another minute.
I ordered a crabcake to go. I love crabcakes and finding a place that makes them right can be challenging. These crabcakes were packed with nice chunks of sweet crabmeat, no filler! Yum! The only problem was, my crabcake was burnt. See photos.
We each ordered Long Island iced teas. Drinks were ok.
Service was ok, nothing to write home about. Our server did check on us but we didn’t feel the awesome service some other reviews talked about.
The odor of stale ashtray was the first thing we noticed when we entered the restaurant.
Overall, the dining experience at Stoppers was just OK. We will probably not be in a...
