We're not from around this area and were passing through while driving a long distance. We had heard nothing but great things about this place and their food and were excited and anxious to stop, even going out of our way to get a chance to try this place out. Absolutely fantastic, and totally worth the extra miles!!!
We have a big family and enjoyed passing around and trying the A-1 Smokehouse Burger with the Southwest Sweet Potato Fries, the Southwest Burger from 1885 with the Bloomin' Onion Rings, and the (fun named) Marty McFly Burger from 1985 with the Dilly Fries, along with the kids burger and kids hot dog meals. Everyone completely devoured our food, so quickly we forgot to take photos!
The A-1 Smokehouse Burger was a killer combination of fantastic and moist smoked meats and light sauce. Not just a hamburger with some BBQ, this savory burger was a new flavor we'd never had and came together perfectly as a new classic! Likewise, the Southwest Sweet Potato Fries were a new and interesting flavor combination and none of us could eat just one!
The Southwest Burger from 1885 was a sweeter take and was perfectly balanced with just the right amount of pickles and onion ring - not tex-mex, just a flavorful step up from the run-of-the-mill cowboy burger. The Bloomin' Onion Rings... Holy cow... If you're lucky enough to have a chance to try these (they are apparently hard to keep in stock, due to high demand they sell out quick) ORDER THEM! These were, hands down, the best onion rings we had ever eaten. Seriously. Crispy, crunchy, and flavorful exterior, perfectly seasoned batter, not greasy, with a large and delicious crunchy sweet onion inside - perfectly cooked! So good, with the Bloomin' sauce, ranch, or by themselves!!!
The Marty McFly Burger from 1985 was the overall favorite. This was perhaps the best burger any of us have ever eaten. A classic flavor combination raised to epic level, a burger lovers paradise in your mouth. Just try it and you'll agree! And the Dilly Fries were a delicious and perfect pairing!
For dessert, we shared two of the on-site handmade cheesecakes, the caramel almond and the turtle cheesecake. Both were decadent and elegant enough to be right at home in a 5-star restaurant, let alone crazy delicious, and were a yummy reminder of the chef's professional culinary training!
Overall the food was wonderful, the atmosphere fun and interesting, and the staff treat you like family. We enjoyed our food so much, we ordered Reubens and a Shroomer pizza for dinner later tonight on the road! Make the journey and see for yourself! A+++,...
Read moreMy friends and I happened to stumble into Time Travel Cafe recently due to not knowing the area too well. We were simply looking for a decent place to stop for a bite to eat, but instead we found a spectacular diner with delicious and made from scratch meals and with a team of the best restaurant staff I could've asked for.
Beyond that... their menu is the perfect size, the prices are very reasonable, the food is just the right size and top notch quality, the staff are extremely friendly, accommodating, and great conversationalists, the building itself has a great atmosphere and isn't too large or too small, and everything else you could imagine was just great.
If you're ever in the vicinity of Fair Grove, MO, you absolutely must pay the Time Travel Cafe a visit! You will not be...
Read moreTime Travel Cafe is such a fun place with AMAZING food! I love the patty melt with their Greek aioli, their mushroom Swiss burger, and my husband says they have the best Reuben sandwich around! Their onion rings, deep fried portabello mushrooms, and French fries will leave you wanting more! The decor is a nod to 80's movies with tons of knickknacks, puzzles, clocks, license plates, and all kinds of really fun memorabilia. I see something new every time! And then there is the staff. This is a hometown family that provides refreshing hospitality while serving great food. Time Travel Cafe feels like a nostalgic, warm hug, where you waddle out feeling very full and...
