Well, well, well. I was going to Nessy's. But wait a minute. BBQ? I smell BBQ. First off, I love great BBQ. Second, good BBQ is hard to find. Cooking/smoking BBQ is a labor of love. It takes patients and more patients to get it just right. My wife took me here for Father's Day. I have smelled the awesome BBQ aroma from my seat when I visit Nessy's but never inquired where this heavenly smell was coming from. My wife and I walked in and it's what I would call " A hole in the wall " In English that means it's a hidden gem. Small but cozy. I'm greeted by the cashier who told me her name was "Shelly." I looked at the menu and I was in heaven. This place had everything. Brisket, pork ribs, etc. But I didn't see any beef ribs. The cashier explained to me that they serve beef ribs on Fridays and Saturdays only. Shelly then said they had a special because of Father's Day. They had beef ribs today on Father's Day. Then Shelly described the beast of a rib. Some people would call these ribs "Dino" or "Cowboy" ribs. There aren't a lot of BBQ places that can get down with these types of beefy ribs. Most BBQ places have rib bones with no meat. The prices were also very reasonable. BBQ can be expensive but this place gives you plenty of food for the money (Definitely a value). A gentleman came up to me and suggested I try the beef ribs. A lady paying for her food ahead of me told me the BBQ was great and I better try the beef ribs. A family enjoying their meal was quiet because they were to busy eating. That's what I'm talkin about. A true sign the BBQ is awesome (No time to talk when the food is that good). Then I saw peach cobbler on the menu. I know you didn't. This place was hitting all the right spots. My wife and I ordered the ribs and the moment of truth was upon us. That first bite. Oh man this was excellent. I got so excited (I can't explain further. There might be children reading this) Let's just say I was very excited. James Brown excited. Perfect smoke ring and the meat was falling off the bone. The rib meat on the bone was approximately 1 1/2 inches (Thickness). Oh Lord. I was in heaven. I couldn't eat my sides. The portions were large. Man oh man, Im getting hungry just thinking about this place. Thank you Shelly for an awesome experience. The food at the Rib Shack is top notch. My hats off to the cook. I will be coming back and in time I will have tried everything on your menu. You have a customer for life. If you want excellent BBQ at an excellent price, definitely come to this hidden gem. You won't be...

RIBS POST-HIKE After a long hike, my body wants food. Usually I gravitate toward meat since I've lost protein on the trail.

I traveled on the 395 and stopped by the Rib Shack. Hey, it is rated 4.5-4.7 on Yelp and Google, How could it not be delicious?

WHAT DID YOU ORDER? I ordered the two meat plate. It comes with two meats, two sides and a Sweet Hawaiian roll. I selected ribs and brisket. My sides were macaroni and cheese and potato salad. I also purchased a side of baked beans $5.00, ridiculous).

ARE YOU FEELING IT? I found the food overrated and lackluster. Remember I was pretty hungry because I just finished hiking 10 miles. Meats - tender and smoked to perfection, but needs seasoning. This may be a no salt establishment.

HOW WERE THE SIDES: I'm a firm believer that you don't need sides for meat. However, when it's barbecue you must have something to complement the meal. Macaroni and cheese: If you like macaroni and Velveeta this is the perfect combination. If you like the real deal-Pass Baked beans: combo red beans and pinto beans. Excellent smoke flavor. Everything else-Pass Potato salad: Bingo. They got this one right. Hawaiian roll: When are they never perfect? I recommend the rib shack out source their sides to a caterer that knows how to whip it good.

WHAT'S YOUR OVERALL IMPRESSION? The two meat meal in my opinion can feed two. The sides can be split. For the price point at $30.00 I won't be returning. And I may also not remember to recommend.

HIGHLIGHTS Immaculate inside Exemplary customer service Minimum wait time Barbecue sauce

Hello world everybody’s got to enjoy a great rib with you. Enjoy a great rib, it’s got to be cooked and a great and fantastic way that yesterday have here this gentleman. I don’t know what time they get up or what time they stop but every time I’ve ever gotten a rib, ribs, biscuit, brisket Sandwiches even the chicken and rib shack is been top notch five stars ,A1,10 above a 10! And my friend would sit out to go camping we’re going to go for a day trip or on our Indian motorcycle or we’re just gonna takeoff for an excursion. We stop here first always and we pick up a rack of ribs and used to be a half rack well gotten smart about it. You can always use caffeine food but when you’re making a trip up there man you just want those fresh crispy fries. The wife loves her coleslaw. I can’t say enough about this place, you all just simply have to try it I’m Mr. La Roux, friend of Mr. Magoo and right now I’m telling you the rib shack. I’ve had a lot of ribs along the way and in my day there’s nothing like these guys and the way they prepare their meats will check it out man it’s delicious Rib shack thank you all for allowing us to enjoy your food. This is Larry Louis Lopez signing up. Love you you be where you V and we always be there, sayonara, and for those of you who don’t know that side of the...

The Texas-style meats smoked here are about as good as they get in North San Diego County, right up there with Smokin J's in Poway. The pulled pork and brisket were lean, tender, and delicious. The sandwiches are served with no BBQ sauce on them which I prefer, but two sauces are on the side -- one sweeter and one smokier. The brioche buns are very soft and tasty, and hold up well while munching down. The coleslaw was fresh and crunchy with nicely balanced flavors, and the fries were pretty good except that they could have used another minute in the fryer. I'd ask for them lightly well done next time. No free water is available and I don't understand why. There are only six tables inside, but plenty outside. One pet peeve is that like many quick-serve restaurants, the tip screen starts at 15%. Just for taking an order and bringing it out or yelling your name? They should start at 10%, which is more than this level of service deserves, especially given the elevated prices. It would be better than the NO TIP option which I select rather than hassling with a custom tip entry while the order taker stares at you with a long, sad face. If Yelp allowed decimals, I'd give it a 4.5, taking off a bit for the lack of water, partially soggy fries, no restrooms, and attempted tip extortion.

Small local spot with really good barbecue. Inside is a little tight with only a handful of tables, but there were a few other picnic tables just outside for extra space. Service was great, the woman working the counter was courteous and brought out our food outside to us when it was ready. The top dog for me and my wife were the sides actually. The beans and coleslaw were excellent. Beans had a hint of sweetness with smokiness right alongside. Coleslaw was traditional in taste, fresh and crunchy, and not at all sweet or mushy. Mac and cheese was good, but just average in our opinion. Regarding the meats we had, flavor and seasoning were absolutely on point. Having the sauce on the side was perfect so you can add (or not add) as much as you would like. We got ribs, brisket, and a tri-tip sandwich. The biggest drawback was that the brisket and tri-tip were a bit overcooked and dry. Not enough to ruin them, but enough to notice and wish they were just a bit more juicy. The ribs were super tender and fell right off the bone without being dry at all. Overall, I would definitely stop here again and would 100% recommend them to friends and family. If the smell of smoke doesn't convince you to stop by and try a plate, hopefully my pictures do!
