DISAPPOINTED. NOT THE REAL DEAL. I had read a lot of positive reviews, thinking this was going to be good pie. I will start off by saying that I've been eating to Delorenzo's tomato pies in Trenton for close to 40 years, and this is NOT it. Primarily from the Hudson Street location, and now Robbinsville NJ and Yardley PA. I've re-created better knock offs of the famous tomato pie in my standard kitchen oven that had more flavor then this.
At first glance, the tomato pies at the burg look close to delorenzo's, but they are not. As soon as it was brought out to the table I could tell they do not use the oil blend on the crust. The crust texture/consistency is not the same. And the flavor of the crust is not the same. Yes it's thin and crispy, and yes it looks similar to the original, but it's not. Overall the tomato pie lacked flavor in every area. If you want the original, just drive an extra couple minutes to the Delorenzo's Yardley location and eat it there if you don't feel like venturing into Jersey. And I know some people will say these pies are similar to Hamilton location, but they do not taste like it. There's a big difference between looking like and tasting the same. I gave it to stores because really there's much better Pizza in the area then this.
On another note, we had ordered roast pork sandwich with broccoli rabe and sharp provolone. The pork was dry, there was no au jus on the bread, and the broccoli rabe was not even sauteed. They must have blanched it in hot water. Everyone knows the broccoli rabe should be sauteed with garlic, olive oil and salt, at minimal. This sandwich also lacked flavor big time. If you're expecting it to taste like a south philly roast pork & broccoli rabe sandwich, you will be disappointed.
There's about 10 other local shops that have better pies, so if they are closed and you need one in a pinch, then I guess this place...
Read more5 stars if you dine in. Pizza always great as expected. We got takeout twice, pasta on October 4th and sandwiches on October 21st. Disappointing both times. Sparse amount of sauce on pasta but extremely generous with the actual pasta...we had to get dinner somewhere else then "doctor up" to eat on another day. The meatball appetizer, said to be large on the menu, was 2 meat balls cut in halves with a smallish amount of sauce for $3.50...they were very good but too little of them for the price. The Italian dog was cold when it arrived home...about a quarter mile... And the potatoes and peppers were still crunchy. The chicken cheese steak was dry with imperceptible cheese. When I called to inquire about the serving size of meatballs, the young manager adopted a sharp and resistant tone with me...when I mentioned that this was our second experience with less than generous takeout orders, he said he remembered our compaint from before, and began overtalking me and basically insinuating that I had lied the and was being unreasonable now. Oh, and he made some harsh remarks and hung up on me. I would usually wait until tomorrow voice my concerns to the owner, but this was so uncharacteristically awful I could not sleep on it before commenting. This is a place that has someone open the door for customers in and out, and yess ma'am no ma'am whatever you need ma'am, and our pleasure providing you excellent service come back soon. I am shocked and disappointed at the way our valid complaints and questions were so poorly received and reacted to. We encourage anyone who wants a great dine-in experience to try delorenzo's the burg pizza on new falls road. But be warned that they only like happy feedback from...
Read moreWe have been going to the burg about a year now mostly Saturday nights for dinner. Super friendly staff and The food is fantastic. Homemade soups and pasta dishes are delicious. Had the ravioli last night with the five cheese sauce and diced tomatoes, my husband said it was the best ravioli he’s ever had. Pasta dishes usually change every week And we usually find one that one of us likes but the other things on the menu are just as good. We’ve had the pizzas the Italian hotdogs, steak sandwiches and I have to say I’m partial to the salads they have some great salad. Last night it was the arugula with goat cheese grapes candied walnuts shredded carrots and a delicious balsamic vinegar dressing.Last is desserts don’t know if anyone has ever tried the tartufo. Two flavors pistachio with raspberry ( so good ) the other I think it’s strawberry chocolate and vanilla only because we always get the pistachio. We’ve never had a tartufo until we went to the Burg. We had two 1/2 order pasta dishes, three sodas and I had a salad $41 total. pasta dish is either $10 or $12 depending on which one you get. Half order is definitely enough for one person. They take Covid seriously as well I’ve seen them wipe down the tables the chairs even the edges of the tables And they still don’t leave any condiments on the tables. I could go on and on, one of the best places to eat dinner in...
