My wife and I came on a Friday night at 6pm. No one was dining there. It’s very bright in there not offering any ambience. No music. Felt very sterile but we wanted to try it. We ordered the Paella. The young waitress, who was the daughter of one of the owners was so kind and friendly. She brought out a basket of bread and a bowl of pickled olives and carrots. We talked about Portugal where she was born and how the restaurant was doing. I asked about music and she said the system was not working. The wait for the paella was fairly long, but we were in no rush and I’m glad they were taking their time preparing it. She brought us a second basket of bread and the pickled carrots which had a lovely oil to dip the bread in. When the paella came out, it was served in a cast-iron pan that had enough food for three people. It was absolutely delicious and all that we hoped for. Generous amount of seafood and delicious rice. We spent the next hour enjoying it and talking with our waitress. During the hour, a few other people came in and left, but otherwise it seemed unusually quiet for Friday night. I think if they try to create some more ambience with less bright lighting, they will draw more of a dining crowd. We will certainly go back, but as far as a dining out experience with friends, probably less so unless the ambience became warmer and more inviting. It wouldn’t take much to do so. But if their other dishes on their extensive menu are as good as the paella, hopefully they will...
Read moreNew to East Falmouth, this Portuguese eatery caught our eye despite having a limited number of reviews. It's a low-key spot, set up like a deli featuring a lunch buffet, pastries, desserts, and savory snacks like pastels. The displays have stuff during the day, but options dwindle by evening.
The ambiance is ultra-casual, with deli-style formica tables making you feel like you're in a quick-service restaurant. The owners are a Portuguese-Brazilian couple, with the wife's Portuguese uncle in the kitchen. Although they don't serve alcohol, feel free to bring your own from the liquor store next door.
Service comes courtesy of their teenage daughter, who's new to the job and quite shy. Patience is key here; it's not a fast-food joint. The dishes we tried were flavorful but be prepared for a staggered meal--dishes arrive 10-15 minutes apart. They were out of a couple of staples like kale soup, but overall, it's a welcome change from the typical seafood spots in the area. Go, but don't be in a hurry. It's a peaceful spot; we were one of just two...
