Do they expect me to eat with my hands?
Anita's has had historically reasonable quality food, however not providing flatware and a straw to a Doordash order to a hotel with $20 in extra charges, is a statement that they don't care about the quality of their service or their own guests.
Terrible way to run a restaurant. Flatware and napkins should always be included in every carry out order. You never know where the customer will be eating, or whether or not they are away from home. This also reduces customer complaint and generates repeat business.
Lack of eating utensils and napkins results in less repeated business, as it is disrespectful to the paying guest.
Also: The hardboiled egg on my salad was overcooked. Discolored yolk.
Whoever made the kale salad does not know how to properly mix and present a salad. All the toppings were at the bottom, rather than mixed through, with some reservered for the top for visual and aesthetic appeal. This affects the flavor, as the ingredients are not cohesively blended.
Additionally, the quinoa was not properly drained prior to adding to the salad, which made the salad watery and runny. The excess water dilutes the flavor of the dressing.
Update: I have been reviewing other reviews of the restaurant, and is seems they have some racist servers. As a previous high-performing server myself, I can guarantee that the experience had by Oakland Avenue Urban Farms was indeed racist. Whoever the server was assumed that white people would tip better and gave the black guests lower quality service as a result.
This is a terrible and common bias amongst many servers in the restaurant industry. People treat you how you treat them. I have had many black guests who have tipped me $50 on $100 bills. If you treat people poorly, your tips will suffer. That simple. The reputation of the restaurant suffers as well.
Do you notice how Jared, the manager, is gaslighting the guest and talking down to them, rather than taking accountability for the restaurant's poor service and correcting it? Offering a free meal and reprimanding the staff would have been more appropriate than blaming poor service on something the guest didn't do. Bad management style. Comments such as Jared's that give the business a bad reputation. Publicly demonstrates poor customer service.
Oakland Avenue Urban Farms is a local business. Local business people talk to other local business people. It is best to avoid judging your guests based on appearance, as they could be local business owners, politicians, or wealthy eccentrics.
As an individual who has extensive experience in the restaurant industry, I am profoundly...
Read moreDon’t get me wrong, I love Anita’s food..which is why I continue to order carry out from there approx once every other month but the last three times weren’t the best. I suppose it’s my own fault for not speaking up the previous 2 times that I ordered which why I decided to speak up this time. The first of 3 times was in Dec or Jan, and I ordered 2 of the chicken shawarma plates & I have to say I was quite disappointed as all the chicken was tiny little pieces & there wasn’t nearly as much as usual, I chalked that up to being that they were closing soon. The following time I decided to pay extra for more & got what seemed to be the usual amount that comes on the plate but paid about $20 per entree which whatever but then this past time I ordered 1 shawarma plate, one reg fries & a loaded house fries & 2 sides of ranch(2 oz cups I think) as well as paying extra for a 2oz cup of garlic sauce. I get home and realize there is no pita to go with the entree…which if it weren’t a shawarma dinner I guess I wouldn’t be so annoyed but also for just shy of $40 for one meal and 2 sides of fries I feel like they need to pay more attention to detail. So I called & it was just after closing so I was told that the manager would give me a bag with pita in it. I wasn’t offered so much as a sorry you had to come back, can I offer you anything for the inconvenience? Nodda just a have a good night as if I was the one who made the mistake or didn’t put the pita in the bag. I mean hell I would’ve taken a sincere apology, a sorry you had to drive back, heck even a free to go drink to try to make up for the fact my meal was going to be cold by the time I got back with the pita…but nothing. Just a huge bummer since I really like the food, and at that price point I feel as I shouldn’t have to rip open the bag and check every single thing right in front of them before leaving the restaurant..I mean if it were a $10 McDonald’s meal sure but come on now. Disappointed to say...
Read moreThis restaurant and the owner, managers and staffs are those real kind and nice people in this world.
Not only their food was super amazingly tasty, I had a very tragic story happened while I was in Ferndale. On my short trip to Detroit/Ferndale area, I was traveling solo with my small luggage. However, the next day when I checked out airbnb I couldn't find my luggage anywhere in the apartment. Thought some thief broke in and I even called police filed case. Nothing very expensive in there, only some of my very favorite clothes collection that had been with me years. They dont value much, all together was about $800 I thought I would never get them back and almost give up because there was no track of how the thief broken in. 7 days later, I got a call from a random phone call, I thought it was a scam, but then they said they are calling from Ferndale and find my number from American Airlines. I was so touched and could not thank the caller enough, because the caller was from this resturant and said they have my luggage. I must very exhausted and could not remember I left my suitcase there and somehow still thought I had it with me. After all, they kept it for me and patiently worked with me through phone calls to send my luggage back to me. At this society, it's very hard for someone to care about other people's stuff, but they really are great people this whole resturant, especially the owner. She is so kind and no wonder their business has been in the city for many years.
I highly recommend anyone who visit Ferndale to visit and have a taste at this restaurant, not just for great the food, but for the nice customer servicd experience with the very lovely people.
Again, I sincerely thank you Anita's kitchen and your whole team squad. This truly...
