J's Penalty Box — Restaurant in Ferndale

I didn’t want to give J’s Penalty Box a negative review in the first place, however after seeing the unprofessional response the owner replied to my friend’s review, I felt it fair to have my voice heard about the establishment in question. I would give zero stars if I could. I have never been to an establishment where the bartenders and/or owner are extremely rude and enjoy falsifying information to lose customers. I attend Wednesday Trivia night with a group of friends (about 4 people or sometimes more each week), and have always ordered food whether our own (wings) or to spilt between us (pizza). At least one if not more of us, orders an alcoholic beverage or soda as well as food. My last experience resulted in the bartender being extremely rude and assuming "we never order food or drinks" and "we tip very poor.” My first response to this is we always tip 15-20% individually. We even offered to rectify the accusations in question to which we were told to “be adults”(?). In our view, we have never said anything that was less than respectful to the waitstaff, and there has never been a time we have stayed for any longer than the length of trivia. I will not stand for slander from an owner making false accusations. Judging by looking at other fair reviews, the owner will try and bully this fair and just review with a sarcastic tone and unprofessional demeanor. I expect none the less from an establishment especially when it comes to their bartenders make false accusations without knowing...

Disappointed in my experience here. Friendly waitress, decent food, but the management and ownership make this a bar I will never visit again.

They are a self proclaimed sports bar, where cheering for your team is a cause for verbal berating by the owner. I am a firm believer that if you own any business you should never yell at your patrons. I am also a firm believer that if you own a sports bar the atmosphere should be lively. If I wanted to watch sports in silence I would have gone to the library.

I am also in disbelief that after seeing other reviews stating the same thing the owner is claiming it is not true. That the reviewer is trying to harm small businesses. I would love to see the owners of this establishment take responsibility for their behavior. I know some people on the internet troll and write fake reviews, but at a certain point if multiple people are claiming something about you, maybe you are the problem.

I had high hopes for this bar. Really bummed it wasn't what they claim to be.

EDIT: I am also disappointed in the owners unprofessional response. I would have considered changing my views about the awful Management and ownership of this establishment but it is very clear that someone who responds to reviews in this was has minimal experience in customer service. I tried out J’s for the first time yesterday after seeing they had half price pizzas on Thursday in the Royal Oak eats Facebook group. A few people said they were great and a good takeout idea for Thursday night. I wholeheartedly agree after my first experience. I got the dill pickle and supreme pizzas. Both were very good. They were light crispy and very tasty They were unlike most pizzas I’ve ever had before in a good way. I was skeptical about the dill pickle pizza but highly recommend it.

Furthermore, the ownership and staff were awesome. When I placed my order, there was a mixup with the payments. And the owner offered to comp my Pizza to make sure that I wasn’t double charged and when I paid told me to call back tomorrow if I somehow got double charged and she would take care of it. They just wanted to make sure that I was taken care of. This was a huge plus in my opinion that they were looking out for their customers and I will definitely be back solely because of that.
