I am happy to see Hobart's shop so we'll preserved and accessible for all to share in its rich history. My father has told so many stories about his adventures with Hobart in Ferndale. He was quite involved with the workings of the Kinetic Sculpture Race. As far as I can tell The Mind's Eye has been the heart of Ferndale for over a hundred years.
Sadly Hobart and my father have both passed, they live now in the heart of Ferndale. My father's picture and HAM Radio license plate are attached.
The photo of my father was taken within The Mind's Eye, he is sitting in his favorite chair with his back to the fireplace, remembering his best friend Hobart to his granddaughter and I.
I have very few opportunities to travel to Ferndale, however I never regret making the journey. The first door I enter is The Mind's Eye. While I enjoy a good cup of coffee, I quietly remember my father and how much he loved this place and the people in town, all my cares and worries disappear.
Ferndale is a special place, it exists in a different world, a time somewhere in the past that is welcoming, kind and caring. A must visit place, none other like it.
The Mind's Eye is a place that you MUST experience...

Thank you for offering real, reusable mugs to those who are enjoying their coffee to stay. By 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean, then fish, and it means a lot to me as a customer to find and support local businesses who are doing their part to empower customers to create less trash.
I’d love to see even more promotion of this to your customers, as I did see a few who were enjoying their coffee to stay, but out of it to go cup. Just a thought! Perhaps asking the customer explicitly if they will be staying could go long way.
Anyway, thank you for your intention, and thank you for giving me the dignity of a delicious coffee without nasty, plastic trash associated with it. I truly appreciate it.
Lovely service, lovely atmosphere, lovely clientele....

The drinks and goodies are great, as is the friendly and helpful barista. That’s just the beginning of what might draw you in. The owner (also owns the entire building) has been traveling to Alaska for years learning all about native Alaskan boat building including discovering parts of a type of boat that predated current native knowledge. He recently finished building one of these which look similar to but predate Umiaks. I didn’t get to meet him as he is currently up north working with locals to share his knowledge and help them build one to reintroduce this cultural heritage. Great food and drinks, and a glimpse into a craftsman’s world…...
