Howard or Phillip we'd like to hear from you as this employee does not know how to handle customer service. Seems a lot of other people agree if you check out the comments.. To the owners your employee Kyle, has a terrible attitude I simply called to tell him that the bagel sandwich that I just received was on a tiny bagel making the sandwich much smaller than anyone I have purchased over the past 15 years... After him telling me that sizes can vary I agreed and said this was tiny...he then got upset asked my name to make a lox bagel and hung up on me! Wife called back to speak to manager, guess who answers Kyle with his terrible attitude. I want to see New York bagel around for another hundred years but with that terrible attitude/service it's not gonna happen. (Also just an insight from visiting for 15 years anytime I've ever been in there the employees have been talking amongst themselves instead of actually serving customers today while I was there a line formed and someone else had to tell the other employees to help the customers.) I have attached a picture I just took at the store of a New York bagel weird this one is normal size and has a hole in the middle The one I got my sandwich on was so small it didn't even have a hole and was not even the same thickness:-(

Thought I would try it based on other reviews. Maybe I just got there on a bad day, but their customer service was awful. Wasn't acknowledged at all when I walked in, for at least 3 mins. I was the only person there at the moment, it was 6 am. Not a whole lot of selection, which surprised me a bit, based on reviews and the menu. Got my half dozen, tub of cream cheese and a coffee to go. Coffee was nothing special, had a slight burnt flavor. The parmesan bagel lacked flavor...and parmesan. And unfortunately the pumpernickel bagel was as hard as a rock, like it was day old at least. It was inedible. Granted the bagels are proper boiled and baked bagels, but I did not have a 5 star experience at all. I wanted to be all about a local bagel shop, but this one fell way short. The customer service needs some major improvement. I was in there for 10 mins. for something that should have been a quick in and out. I don't care how good your food is (in this case: overrated) if the staff isn't efficient and pleasant, you don't really deserve repeat business. Would not go back.

New York Bagel reminds me of the best parts of my childhood in Ferndale. In elementary school (RIP Washington), one day a week was bagel day. Despite not liking salt, I’d get the salt sticks because everyone else got them and they were cooler than traditional bagels. In high school, I had an all-day band practice (fly high forever, Eagles!) that I recall being in the mid-late fall because it was quite cold outside. My mom surprised me by dropping off a bagel sandwich with turkey, coleslaw, and Russian dressing. She’s gone now, but whenever I walk into NY Bagel I think of my mom and the perfection of that sandwich. I live in Chicago now, but any visit back to Ferndale involves a stop for the best bagels in the Detroit-area. Though I’m trying not to overstate it - these are the best bagels in the world. I’ve been to the bagel hotspots of the world, including NYC and Montreal, and nothing compares to these. My personal favorite are the egg bagels, but they’re all amazing. If you’re in the area, go here.

First time client. I came in for a dozen bagels and was rudely served. The woman at the counter told me I could get 13 bagels for the price of twelve, idk if this is a regular thing but of course I said ok. I proceed to give her the flavors I wanted in an organized manner and she kept rolling her eyes at me like she was annoyed by me for some reason. Then she abruptly stopped when I wasn't finished, I had the types of flavor listed and ready to not be a burden and avoid being that customer that doesn't know what she wants, so when she stopped and proceed with the check I knew I wasn't done and asked her "oh Is that twelve? Am I done? She said yeah. She then continues with her attitude. I wasn't by myself. I was about to grab the bag and she snatched it from me and gave it to my companion, a male, and said "you should carry it" I don't know if she was trying to finally be courteous but she failed at it. Me and my companion walked out of the establishment and talked about how obvious her behaviour was towards me. I don't know if it was my fair skin color but she being a woman of color herself shouldn't have behaved like that. Anyway, bagels are great but that experience personally, make me not go there again. Oh btw I counted and there were...

This place has a very good product. I have always enjoyed my food, the coffee is good. I've been going for 20 years or more. But I will not be back. I waited this morning 15 to 20 minutes for a simple bagel sandwich and a would be coffee. The woman who took care of me, after I had waited 10 minutes for 4 or 5 employees to get product to several people waiting ahead of me, proceeded to fuss with the coffee machine, then messed with an iphone attachment for a radio that the employees evidently wanted to listen to, she gossiped with the other employees, while I waited and waited for my bagel sandwich being made in one of 2 microwaves. A line was near the the door behind me. She finally brought my sandwich to me, rang me up, and no coffee 10 minutes later. I've had to wait 5 to 20 minutes every time I go there. This is my last visit. I had office hours for my own business that I was nearly late for this morning. It's fast food, granted very good. I recommend the management figure out how to service people much quicker, and less party play of the employees. Who by the way act like the customers are there to serve them, not the other way...
