New Way Bar — Restaurant in Ferndale

It's one of my favorite bars. Right in the heart of downtown Ferndale. It's an institution. It used to be a total dive, but it couldn't be more different today. It's a mecca for interesting people. It's always packed on the weekends, and there's always a bunch of fly honeys there. It's a great place to meet people, and it's much more than just a bar. They have a stage where people do stand-up, local bands that play live music, etc. The service is good, bartenders are totally cool, and they definitely take care of you if you take care of them, if ya know what I mean. You should def check it out, especially on a night where they have stand-up or live music. It's fun as hell. And I can't stress enough, how many fly honeys are always up in there. I highly recommend it, particularly in the summer. There's one more thing that makes New Way, and all the bars and restaurants on Woodward unique. There's a winding network of alleyways behind all the bars and restaurants on Woodward. Most of the places have back doors that open up to the alleyways behind Woodward, so you can meander through the alleys, from place to place, bar crawling all night long. In the summer, there are HUNDREDS of people in the alleys, going from place to place, partying, congregating, etc. There's even like underground nightclubs or raves throughout the alleys, often in high up, expensive lofts. I don't know who you gotta know to get in there, but I wanna know 😅 Anyway. Great place and great area to have...

I came out here to check the place out have not been here in a while. One thing I immediately noticed is they were doing open mic comedy. It was the 4th of July weekend so I figured I'd check it out. The only thing that I think they could do a little better is if people sign up to perform they should be able to perform around the time that they sign up. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work that way because there are more recognized Comics that can cut ahead in line. From a professional standpoint and also from a Time standpoint that doesn't work. Number one reason is let's say you come in there early and you sign up you shouldn't have to wait almost 4 hours to perform. It's not professional and it is not fair. At the end of the day people's time is precious and my wife and I were not happy with how things went. May come back to see how things go in the future may not. But if I would change one thing it would be when someone signs up you put them on in a timely fashion and don't skip them. I honestly hate that it has had to come to this. I have been coming to this bar for over 3years. It was my favorite bar. Going sometimes 3 times a week. I would have birthdays there, holidays there. I love all the bartenders and the people who go there. I have drank the same thing for over 5 years (tito's and pineapple) I have never had a problem especially at new way. Then out of the blue a year ago I started seeing extra charges on my bill. 50 cents extra per drink. Which is weird because you wouldn't order a vodka orange juice or a vodka cranberry and expect to be charged extra for the juice. It went back and forth sometimes being charged and then sometimes not being charged. The last time I was there I brought it up to Jamie the owners attention and he was down right rude to me. I was takin aback at how he was treating me, someone who he knows and has known for quite sometime. I wasnt looking for any special treatment it's just I have been to probably over 100 bars in my life time and have ordered this same drink and never in my life have I been charged extra for pineapple juice.
