The second place I have ever given 5 stars. This place is family oriented and down home. So friendly the mother and daughter are absolutely amazing and the momma I tell ya has the best biscuits and gravy we have ever had. Nothing fancy just good food and great folks who put all their love into every bite of food in a lovely little town called Ferndale. How lucky to be from such a beautiful place with very humble and kind folks. The only thing I regret is not getting the name of the mother and daughter there. The momma is the biscuit maker/ cook and the daughter serves and cashier's. They are super amazing folks. Thanks for the wonderful breakfast in your lovely building. Will be seeing y'all again. Keep up the fantastic work. How I rate my restaurants are based on cleanliness of the place and staff, the kindness, knowledge of the menu and how the place operates as well as quality of food and cost. When I ask a question about something whether it be about how a dish taste or where does your meat or produce come from is it free range ect. I expect the person to be able to answer most of these questions. Timing this is always dire. Most folks are ready to eat and get on with their day unlike me going out to eat for me is an event and I take my time and enjoy it. So, having fast yet efficient service is always a plus. Keep in mind every restaurant is different when it comes to this. The thing I am most adament about my service is the folks that are serving me. They must be knowledgeable, clean and very well put together hair pulled up out of way, kind and patient and like lite conversation and joking to make the experience that much better. I am not one who needs my plate to look all fancy for me to want to eat it as long as it's smells and taste good I am gonna eat it. This place hits all my sweet spots and you don't need No Reservation. And a plus they make you feel as if your at home. They treat you like family and just cause it's closing time don't mean they will rush you off either. If you like down home cooking and folks then come to Poppa Joe's I promise you won't be disappointed. Cash only no cards and Poppa Joe...
Read moreNegative five stars. Don't eat here unless you are racist or you have all day to wait for your food.
My family and I visited Ferndale to soak in the many places of interest, only to come across what we thought looked like a neighborly, low-key establishment. We got seated and ordered simple things -- sandwiches and burgers. We waited for our food for AT LEAST 70 MINUTES when it wasn't even busy.
To make matters worse, the hometown boys with confederate flag apparel who showed up twenty minutes after us had eaten, paid, and left, 30 minutes before we even received our food. And when the food did arrive, the waitress didn't even issue so much of an explanation, let alone an apology. Luckily we took the high road, didn't make a fuss, and decided to never come back.
And the...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to try out Poppa Joe’s. Our server was lovely. She was kind and attentive. The overall service however was extremely poor. A group of five locals came in approximately 5-10 minutes after we arrived and they were served before us, even though we ordered before them. Do not order the mocha coffee. It tasted like a powdered cocoa mix with burnt coffee and was extremely sugary. I normally order eggs over medium, an omelette, or a scramble. Today I decided to order a breakfast burrito. What a mistake. There was enough cheese to stop 3 hearts stuck to the tortilla that was hard and crusty. The bacon was burned and black and the eggs were completely overcooked. I think we will find another place for breakfast the next time we pass...
