Quickly Boba Cafe - Ferndale — Restaurant in Ferndale

What began in Taiwan is now in my little town of Ferndale. I was first introduced to boba around ‘00 in the town of East Lansing. Every time I visit a prominent college town boba is a must. I cut my teeth on much of the chains we know, and occasionally I dabbled in a handful of independent establishments that usually miss the mark. I made a routine stop in Ann Arbor about a month or two ago only to find my previous spot had been bought by Quickly. I tend to approach new bubble tea spots with a degree of skepticism, but this time I was pleasantly surprised. The quality and flavors are top tier—instant Quickly fan. That being said, I wasn’t terribly anxious to make another 45 minute drive to Ann Arbor just for bubble tea. About 2 weeks after my Ann Arbor visit I came across a sign in a local storefront for new Quicky location coming soon to our ever evolving town of Ferndale. I curbed my excitement and waited about a week or so after the Dream Cruise to finally pop in. This is my second trip back and I must say I’m so happy to have a Quickly here. They do boba right. This location in particular is clean, menu is fairly easy to navigate for a newb., service is prompt, and the product is exceptional. They offer an array of bites that I have yet to try but have me intrigued. I want nothing more for this spot to last, which is why I’m taking the time to spread the good word. It offers an accessible place of cultural fare suitable for all ages that this town is so desperate for. Quickly of Ferndale is hands down one of best new establishments this town has gained in a number of years. It takes a lot for me to write a review so here it is. I highly recommend.

Update: as of 1/23/2022

This was my first visit after some time. Very unhappy with the cleanliness upon walking in. Water all over the floor, tables had food bits on them. 3 employees in the place and no one had on masks, gloves or any food handling protective gear. Seems odd to see this where serving food, meanwhile patrons are wearing masks. I understand it’s not always necessary in every instance but zero attempt is being made. I probably won’t be returning sadly. I really liked this place.

Update as of 4/9/2022:

Vast improvement since my last visit. I’ve come back several times since my last negative experience and the place has been turned around from what I can tell. The management or owners seem to really make the effort in making this a successful business. Very clean, staff taking the necessary precautions. Ordered at the kiosk and got a couple new drinks to try. I think the tiger milk tea is my new favorite and I would recommend. I’m pleasantly surprised by the shift in care here. My experience was absolutely horrendous. I walked in at 7:37 PM, greeted by an employee mopping the floor. Our initial exchange was pleasant enough.

However, upon ordering and waiting for my food and drinks, I was informed that they couldn't prepare my food because they weren't allowed to after 7:40 PM, she said they already cleaned the grill, and they don’t want to get it dirty again.

No signage indicated this absurd policy. The employee could have easily informed me before I paid.

My husband and I used to go here like every other day! Used to be consistent and good. We stopped going as much because the last 2 handful has been inconsistent. The third time it happened we went back in because when it happens it literally tasted like water with little sugar and boba but they were nice enough to make us new one. The new one was even worst tasted like water with boba but no sugar this time. So we never did that again. Sadly when this happens we just throw it out.
