I went in at 6:15 p.m. on a Saturday night, hoping to get a quick to-go order before it got too busy. The hostess at the front was very polite and greeted me immediately. I said it was just one person, for a to-go order, and that sitting at the bar would be ok. She promptly walked me to the bar.
The entire wait-staff saw me seated. A few minutes later another gentleman sat down at the other end of the bar. The waiter came out and asked what I wanted to drink. He asked if I needed a menu. I replied that I did not need a menu, and that I was ready to order when he was ready. He nodded and said ok. The waiter then asked the other customer the same questions.
Some minutes later, a family sat at a table behind me. The same waiter came and asked for their drinks.
Ten minutes later, the same waiter came back and took the order of the other customer at the bar. He did not acknowledge me or take my order.
Ten minutes later, the same waiter came out and took the food order of the family at the table behind me.
After over thirty minutes - I was still sitting at the bar with only my water. Several other wait-staff came into the bar to get beers and mixed drinks for other customers. Clearly getting the hint that this waiter had no intention of taking my food order, I got up and walked back to the hostess at the front.
I explained to her what had happened, and that I was very upset. She asked if I still wanted to place a to-go order. I said that I did not have enough time, and just waked out without saying anything else.
I don't mind sitting for 20-30 minutes if the waitstaff is busy early on a Saturday night. I know most restaurant employees are doing their best. However, when you actively ignore one person and take the order of everyone around them - you are sending a very clear message about the establishment you work at.
La Charrita will never again get my business. I will also actively try to persuade anyone from ever going to that restaurant, so that they do not run the risk of being on the receiving end of such terrible behavior.
However, if this type of awful attitude is your thing - being ignored at the bar for over thirty minutes - then maybe this place is for you.
I will give a two-star review instead of an angry one-star because the hostess at the front seemed genuinely alarmed. I can only hope that the message was conveyed to the...

Want Poor service?, abdomial pains after eating? Empty pocket book? Have a seat, order up, otherwise find somewhere else.
Was former weekly regular with my family before COVID lockdowns, this was first time back in over a year...Should have known something had changed when handed fancy, 1 paper page menu (no pics) and pricey cardboard straws for drinks.
The next alarm bell ...Menu no longer has Carne Asada tacos a la carte aka "Mexican Authentic Tacos". Asked for them, was told by server he never heard of them, and had to check...really? An authentic Mexican restaurant...really?
After 5 minutes, finally came back and said they did, I ordered 3 with a side of rice and a Pepsi. Got the bill... sticker shock! $4 each, rice $2.50, Pepsi $2.99!!
Every other place I've been to in town, about $3 for tacos. $2 for a Pepsi, that I had to ask for a refill 4 times before it was refiled once.
Needless to say, 2 adults and 1 child, the meal was over $45...and they got water to drink.
Heard other people at next table complaining how items they ordered were way too salty to eat, and that "it didn't used to be like that"... they got it taken off the bill.
If you've never been, do your stomach and wallet a favor and...
Read moreWe are locals who frequent La Charrita as our favorite Mexican restaurant. Last night (Monday 7-3-17) our party of 12 came for dinner at 6pm. The parking lot was packed. It was a holiday "weekend" (July 4th) and the closest restaurant down the road was closed. I counted over 20 tables seated not including our large party & 2 other large parties. We were quickly seated at a nice big table. It was clear that the staff were all busy working hard! The service was slower than normal, but the staff was very friendly & our server tried to accommodate our very needy party with a smile on his face. A few things were forgotten and it took a while to get things that we asked for. But we understood that our server was busy tending to his other tables (he was not standing around ignoring us). Our 15mos old twins were a little restless but it did not seem to bother the staff...they were very kind to us & to our kids too! Our food was delicious, as always (fajita quesadilla). The only tip I would give would be to schedule more staff on occasions like that. Normally I would...
