50/50 Diner in Firchburg has remarkably rude wait staff... but unlike some quirky restaurants, it isn’t done purposefully here... come here for an awe-inspiring experience...
Staff attempts to force customers to purchase their coffee without asking. I was served coffee without having been asked and was then given a bill for said coffee.
Wait staff hangs up on customers.
I asked for water with no ice; I was given ice. (The wait staff seemed disinterested in hearing my response when they asked what i would like to drink, and walked away from me while I was responding with my drink request, which is probably why they did not hear the request for no ice)
I placed my order; the server was dispondant and walked away while I was still giving my order, leaving me to wonder whether everything I ordered was heard and written down for the cook.
Servers here are on their phones and generally very anti-social/unfriendly.
Cooks here do not appear interact with customers even by eye contact, though they do mumble something I have yet to decipher when they bring food orders out to customers to help out the wait staff, and they do help each other out in this way very often, even when it is unnecessary.
This diner seems relatively clean and is well lit and quite spacious, as far as diners go. Air quality is okay. Parking is a nightmare.
The noise here is typically unbearable; I have been here a few times when there was one channel blaring in the front room where everyone eats, while a different channel was blaring just on the other side of the counter where the cooks are working. The two channels combined with the clammoring of customers did sound exactly like the noise used to illustrate the experience of persons with dementia/alzheimer’s disease during my dementia training as a nurse.
The food is consistently...
Read moreWish I could give zero stars. I had a very POOR personal experience on 10/15/22 . I’m hearing impaired and have a hearing assist service dog. I went for breakfast and there was only 1 table open in the whole restaurant it was a 6 seat table. I sat down ordered my food and coffee then told the server I was going to take my dog outside for a few mins while the food cooks. I came back about 5 mins later and was told I couldn’t take up a whole table while I walked my dog and I could get my food to go. I went to the restroom to wash my hands and my food was being delivered to the table. I said well I guess I can sit down and enjoy my breakfast at a table and not to go. I reminded the wife of one of the owners that I have the same rights as any other diner and can not be treated differently because of my service animal. At this time a man whom I believe to be one of the owners (the one with white hair) ran out of the kitchen toward me and yelled at me that I should have taken my dog for a walk before coming to the diner. He was very scary and had to be escorted back into the kitchen by 2 men. By this time I had my dander up because I was humiliated. But I did nothing wrong. I have been there several times with my dog and never had an issue. This man in my opinion needs anger management classes. I guess the wife felt badly about what happened and paid for my breakfast . I’ve been going there for over 30 yrs, can’t say if I will...
Read moreCall me crazy, but this place has got something going on! I don’t know if they sprinkle fairy dust in their coffee, grate leprechaun gold Into their pancakes, or get their beef from a magic cow! BUT coming here just gave me the biggest break through. I hadn’t gone because I thought the diner was small, but I was sorely mistake. It’s not small, it’s cozy! It’s clean, it smells amazing, and the food is divine! The homemade hash is definitely worth it. The staff is exceptional and the sense of community is beyond expectation. Without a doubt, the owners have created an atmosphere of camaraderie and it’s easy to see not only in the staff, but the communication between staff to customer and even customer to customer. If you’ve made the mistake of driving past it— TURN AROUND! Go inside! Great place to do some research, work on book writing, do some reading, and most importantly eating. They are cash only, but they have an in-house ATM. which makes giving them a well deserved tip that much easier. Trust me, snatch this diner up...
