The best chicken tenders in town, the fries are always great. Excellent fried chicken, love the crabcakes (did not see them on the menu last night) and all the appetizers I have had are wonderful. I am not a steak guy, but my colleagues say steaks are very good but also very expensive. The chicken wrap is good enough, the haddock is excellent. I do not recommend the Pasta Bolognese. Here is the challenge: As many times as I have been here, the bar service has been between not good and terrible. The table service - all the servers have been very sweet and kind - generally has not been the caliber I expect for the prices on the menu. The servers are not familiar with the bar offerings, current inventory, etc. I have also been to Luna in large groups, which seems challenging for them. I was recently there with a group just under 20 people - none of the food came out together, mine was cold by the time the last dish was on the table, and frankly, the presentation was terrible. The server was very sweet, but not at all old enough to be serving adult beverages and had no real knowledge of the bar or menu. I will keep coming back; honestly, all management criticism aside, I think this place is the finest Rochelle has to offer, and with more time, maybe it will improve on all fronts. 1/16/25 update: Really dissatisfied. Canceled Queen of Hearts which I should have known by just walking in the door - the place was deserted. Food was not great. Chili was pretty good, bread on chicken sandwich was burned, fries were oily. For as empty as it was, I expected the service to be more attentive. The reason we go out to Luna on Thursdays is for the charity game Queen of Hearts. If the bar and restaurant are busy on a Thursday night when there is a game and then empty on a Thursday night when there is no game, it should indicate the reason people show up: It is not for the food or service. The server was very nice and we liked her but she smelled like cigarettes. People who don’t smoke notice those...
Read moreThis place deserves to be busy every day of the week! I've been stuck in town (Rochelle IL) for over 5 days and I've have most of the non-franchised restaurants in town. This blows every other place on the map out the water with a double barrel shot gun. SALT 251 is hands down the cleanest place, the classiest decor, the nicest staff and best deal for your buck.
Me and my partner walked here from the Comfort Inn in 0°F weather, in snow (there is no Uber or shuttle) to come back here before we left because we were so impressed. That's a 2 mile walk.
ALMOST all the dishes are hand made, from hand dipped chicken sandwiches to slow cooked cornedbeef brisket for the Ruben. You can tell who ever the head cook (more like chef) really cares for the food they make. They use good and fresh quality ingredients for everything we had. All for a really good price for the amount and quality you get.
Drinks are at a really good price, beer on tap comes with a cold glass for $2.50(some seasonal sales)-$5 (High AP ) and the bartender we had knew a lot about the types he was serving. He made my partner a white Russian and I drank a variety of seasonal beers.
The decor is very nice; modern retro with clean lines and a dark interior with purple lighting that shows off the huge black stone bar that host most of the seating in the restaurant/bar. Every table is set with glass, no plastic to be seen. Both times I've been here smooth jazz is playing. This is a very nice place for a up scale first date, buissness meeting or relaxed meal. Pictures will not make justice for the effort that was put into the place.
Bartenders/staff really cares as well, offered to take us back to the hotel.
There isn't much going on in here so don't expect a riot when walking in but it was a very nice casual bar with lot of character developed from the people...
Read moreA friend and I decided to visit this place for dinner. We arrived at around 7 p.m. and there was about 10 people at the bar. A sign said "seat yourself", so we chose a location in the corner, far from the bar. We were the sole table and the bartender was also waiting tables in the dining room. After 15 minutes of waiting to be greeted, she came to our table and sincerely apologized for not noticing us. A couple of minutes longer and we would have walked out.
After a couple months of being open, the restaurant still has a very limited menu. We both ordered cheeseburgers, fries and sodas. While we were waiting for our food, the bar crowd was a little bit loud and rowdy, talking about conversations that you wouldn't want your children to hear. After we placed our order, the food came out relatively quickly and was delicious!! My friend said she would definitely come back for the cheeseburger.
Just a few tips to the owner: the entrance being in the back is a bit confusing. There needs to be a sign by the sidewalk instead of a note on the door. You never hear any locals talk about Salt 251. Advertising locally and supporting another local business at the same time could help. The tables right next to the bar make it hard to walk around the bar to the dining room, especially if people are standing near the bar. And if you are going to ask people to seat themselves, make sure the bartender is attentive. An old restaurant across the street used to have similar issues and now is permanently closed.
The decor and bar area is very nice! Hopefully the above improvements are made and this local business stays in operation for...
