Simply the best cupcakes in Tampa Bay. You can keep Sprinkles and Cupcake Spot and those other joints - Cupcake Affection is where it's at.
To start with, the shop's frigging adorable. It's clean, cute, beautifully designed, and convenient to the Super Walmart across the street. The employees are always helpful, quick, and chatty, whether it's the owner or one of the girls. Never had a bad experience here.
But the cupcakes, man. Be still my fat trash heart. The menu switches every day and it's always full of novel flavours: Maple Bacon, Boston Cream Pie, Chocolate Banana, Raspberry White Chocolate. The shop uses high quality ingredients measured proportionally by a skilled hand, and the flavours all shine through without being overpowered by sweetness. Moist cake, sexy frosting.
Such sexy, sexy frosting. These are very rich cupcakes. This is one reason I judge them the best. They cost 3.50 a cake and you honestly only need one, making them the best value for your dollar among the Bay area's finer cake shops. Each cake sits heavy in your hand, piled high with decadent buttercream and usually stuffed with some ganache treasure. They're expertly fit into their linings so there's a minimum of frosting waste left behind. As far as cupcake engineering goes, these little motherhumpers are being put together by a skilled Da Vinci.
There are other treats in the shop too, my favourites being the homemade marshmallows, but look out for brownies, cake pops, cookie sandwiches, all kinds of intense madness.
The only downside - and there is nothing the place can do about this - is how delicate their treasures are. The Florida heat will quickly destroy your purchase if you don't act accordingly. If you're transporting your treasures somewhere, blast the AC in your car and keep your treat box level and out of direct sunlight. You can throw an infant in a car seat, whatever, but show more care with a box of cupcakes. Cupcakes...

Anywho, back to the important stuff, this place has the best cupcakes in the world. I have tried two flavors and can't wait to go back and try them all!!! Never have I had a cake so moist and so perfect!!!! And the frosting? Perfect! I don't even like frosting and was a bit upset at how much frosting there was on top of my cupcakes, that is until I got home, unwrapped my box of cupcakes and tried it... Just wonderful flavor and texture!
I found this place as I was looking for a bakery(other than publix) to do my daughter’s birthday cake. I tried a few cupcake (and cake) shops in the area and contrary to yelper’s reviews, none seemed to impress me... Until I tried Cake Affection. Now I can't wait to go back and order my cake (5 months in advance, I don't want to risk my friends and family missing out on this cake, that I am sure will be the talk of my daughter’s birthday).
They have an extensive list of flavors and some that are seasonal... Also, for your child's first birthday they offer a free smash cake for your little one.
Sorry about the super long review, I was unhappy with Yelp steering people away from this awesome cake shop.
If you want an awesome cake, this is the place for you!!!
P.S. Check out their pictures of cakes on Facebook, you'll definitely be...
Read moreI do not understand how you can turn down a birthday party special order because you’re “too busy” and “it has to be over $400”. Ok fine. You want to establish yourself as a higher end bakery. That’s fine. Just giving some feedback. Your frosting is delicious, but your cakes are all missing something. I guess no one would notice because you can douse the cakes in that wonderful frosting. Oh, and if you are such a high end bakery refusing to do orders that are not over $400, why do you give out boxes with hand stamped logos instead of special made logo boxes? That doesn’t seem high end to me. You have to back it up, if you are going to dish it out. Thanks, but I guess we’re going to Swah Rey. I hope you do not get to enjoy success with that kind of attitude. This was a poor choice of words for a potential customer that loves bakeries. No one wants to hear about your excuses and certainly, not the ones that alienate people. We’re not cheap People when it comes to food items, but I guess you will never know for sure now. Maybe getting custom made bakery boxes will nix the precious time that is wasted making lackluster hand stamped ones. Maybe that wasted time should be spent on not alienating customers by asking them to spend over $400 because you...
