We stopped in on a Monday about 1:30 in the afternoon (my wife, 16 y.o. son, and me) driving from Ft Myers back home to Charlotte, NC from a weekend long baseball tournament. Already tired with 8 hours yet to drive. Here's the good news! We were greeted immediately upon entering by a very friendly young lady behind the counter offering a genuine "Welcome to Colt's Pig Stand, have you been here before?" "No", I said...she said, "let me tell you about our menu"...she then explained the menu thoroughly, highlighting that all their entrees and "awesome sides" are hand prepared with "made from scratch" recipes...gotta say, who does that anymore? (treating us with love and care)...and yes, the food was great! Fresh and hot food, prepared to order and served at your table with a very short wait, once again by a caring server with a smile and "do you have everything you need?" The whole place had a cool vibe, clean and organized. The prices were just fine, truly a great value!... So let me tell you about the guy wandering around the dining room. I noticed him talking with customers while we were eating and he came over when we finished and offered to take our basket trays. Also asked if we enjoyed our meal and did we need anything else. I said "yes, we did enjoy our meal and thank you"... As we were walking out the door, I had to stop and tell him what a great lunch experience we had. (I don't generally do that kind of thing, however, I will when it is important)... He introduced himself as Shane, (if I understood correctly, an ownership partner with our awesome greeter and menu tour guide!) and he asked my name, "Van" I said. He said, "Van, you made my day!" He told me a little bit about his 12 year journey with this single point restaurant, adding that they are about to open a second location after carefully crafting this concept. To the locals, race fans, bikers, and travelers, this place is great and they earn it every day! I'll be back again. So, to Shane and all the good people at Colt's Pig Stand, thank you for...
Read more“Best BBQ this side of town”
I guess that means there is a place that is undeniably better on the other side of town? 🤣
It’s been several years since I’ve been here. I remember the food being quite a bit better on previous visits. Or maybe my standards have just gotten higher.
I got a 3 meat plate with smoked turkey, brisket, and St. Louis ribs. Just over $30 with a water to drink. 🙄 They upcharge on every “premium” meat. +$4 for brisket and ribs. Shameless tip screen for counter service and over-priced BBQ? Pass
Brisket 2/5 Cut from the flat. It would appear that ALL of the fat was trimmed pre cook. Amateurs. The result is predictably dry. If you charge $25/pound, why are you charging an extra $4 for a 4-6oz serving of dry brisket?
Turkey 2/5 It didn’t taste bad, but they slice it too thin. I’ve never seen a BBQ place slice their turkey so thin. It dried out fast on the plate.
St Louis Ribs 3/5 They appeared to be a little over done. 2/4 of my bones barely had any meat at all. The end piece was mostly inedible. Membrane still attached to the bottom of the ribs… it’s been years since I’ve seen that at a BBQ restaurant. The best meat of the 3, but just average by my standards.
The sauces are all really basic. A mix of the sweet and original sauce was best for my taste.
Had 1/2 a piece of corn on the cob. The cashier told me it was smoked and fresh corn when I asked. It clearly was not..: just a frozen 1/2 piece. Why do you up charge for that also? +$1.49. Ridiculous
This place is just nickel and dining their customers with all of these up charges
Corn bread muffin 4/5 Nice surprise, a little different style crispy outside and slightly doughy inside. I’d give it a 5/5 but no honey? Disappointing
Overall the food was average at best to me.
I came here with a big appetite, wanting to sample what they had thinking I would buy more to go. I didn’t even bring...
Read moreExtremely disappointing. I had been here several years ago and decided to give them a try again when I was in the area. My fiance and I both got the baby back ribs. She had mac n cheese and green beans for her sides. I had the BBQ beans and potato salad. We both had Texas toast for our bread. First, the things they got right. This won't take long. The beans were very good...some of the best tasting I've had recently. Also, the potato salad was GREAT! IF I ever go back that'll be on the top of my list. In fact, I'd go there just to get a pint or quart of it to take home. My companion said the beans and mac n cheese were OK. Those were the highlights. Now for the low... Starting slow, the Texas toast was cold and basically tasted like thick, buttered bread. There was barely any discernible garlic flavor at all. Now the reason for my rating. The racks of baby back ribs we received were barely lukewarm. They were dried out and TOUGH. They were just awful! When a waiter came by the table to ask how our meal was I told him it was very disappointing. He sent the manager over and I detailed to her my grievances. She offered to bring me a replacement rack & I accepted. Sadly the replacement rack, while hotter, wasn't any better as far as tenderness. It was early Sunday evening, if I remember correctly and i'm guessing they were leftover from Saturday night. That would account for the dryness but not the tenderness. They need to either change their meat supplier or pay for better products or change their cooking technique. I gave them 1 extra * because the manager did try to make things right and I think she reduced the bill or comped 1 meal. (Sorry my memory is a little foggy about that since it was almost 2 weeks ago. In any case, a very disappointing meal but I WOULD go back just for their...
