We went for breakfast and got a lovely seat on the patio-the waitress was bordering on poor attitude/rude… we had to repeat things a number of times because she had an earbud in! I guess she likes to listen to her music better than she likes to work. I asked if the maple syrup was pure maple syrup and she replied that it was.(I only have pure maple syrup, not maple flavoured corn syrup or other “pancake syrup). She even brought the bottle to show me and I was thrilled so I ordered the French toast. (otherwise I would’ve ordered something that didn’t require syrup.) I started to eat, and didn’t think the syrup tasted right … the syrup was definitely not pure maple syrup. Despite the fact it was in a glass bottle that said pure maple syrup. It was a very small bottle and I wondered why a restaurant that serves a lot of breakfast would have pure maple syrup in these small bottles. The waitress denied that there had been a bate and switch with the syrup, and said that it was bought at Publix. (not sure why a restaurant would be buying massive amounts of syrup at Publix… when it would be usual to get there supplies from a restaurant supplier) The French toast was very much lacking in the egg coating, I suspect they watered/milked down the egg before the bread was dipped-I was also given the crust end as one of my pieces of French toast…ugghh-I would not expect to be given a cross hand unless I was asked if I liked crust end and would it be OK if I was given crust. One would think a French toast breakfast would be pretty simple and easy to make a good meal, but it was bordering on unpalatable. Some sort of oil product/margarine was brought rather than butter…. That is always a clue to me that they keep on quality of ingredients. The bacon did not have a nice taste, and my husband who is not fussy at all didn’t really care for it nor did he care for his omelet very much just saying it was “ok”-and he eats breakfast out a lot and is not very fussy— so for him to say that it was OK at best… certainly confirmed my thought that it was generally poor quality meal. But the worst part was the waitress and her attitude…. Take the earbud out, and pay attention to what the customers are saying… don’t be snippy… and take the bloody earbud out when you are working!! The only good thing about the meal was sitting outside .. with it being a lovely morning after having a cold smell for so many weeks..We will...
Read moreI was born and raised, and still live in, the big city. I’m a Miami boy and so I’m used to big fancy and flamboyant restaurants all over the city. Bigger is better... flashy is better... expensive is better.
It’s not always better.
Sometimes you just want to have a quiet breakfast with a longtime friend who you haven’t chatted with in a while where it’s not about how big the restaurant is, or how flashy it is, or how expensive it is. It’s about the conversation over a nice meal.
That was the case during a recent weekend when I visited Stuart, FL. I picked up my friend and we headed to a quiet and family-run restaurant Dixie Grill on Dixie Highway.
For a terrific breakfast you certainly will enjoy Dixie Grill. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and the food is great. What you order is what you get. In Miami sometimes what you order isn’t what you get because there are so many things going on.
Not here. While I find Stuart to be very quiet and low-key, it doesn’t mean your meals have to take a back seat.
Be sure to stop by Dixie Grill for a great conversation to go with your...
Read moreFood was okay. It came out quick. I wanted to sit outside in the fresh air for my sick child. Customer came up and coughed and spit on the side walk right beside where we were sitting. Smokers sat beside us after our food came. I asked the waitress if we could sit somewhere else. She said go ahead. I said you want us to take all of our food and drinks to another table ourselves and she said yes. So after three trips of my son and I getting our food we sat inside at the bar. Definitely not what either of us wanted and not what my son needed. Also my shoes were sticking to the floor every step I took. Not sure what that was about but kinda gross feeling. Overall food wasn’t bad. Waitress I felt wasn’t helpful and a bit rude. The lady at the bar that took care of drinks and checks was very sweet. If only she was our waitress. If you want to be able to go somewhere you can leave your manors at home this is the place for you. Sorry just grossed out...
