Been eyeing this place for a while, as I've never been to a South African focused shop nor have I had the meal in a pie cuisine. The shop keeper was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I got the Shepherds Pie and Beefsteak Pie. I also picked up some sausage roll jerky and oat biscuit crackers/cookies? Both pies were amazing. The pastry was solid and tasted so good!!!! Meats were delicious and had a terrific texture and flavors. The jerky was interesting. It had a good outer texture but the inside was almost creamy. Mind u this is sausage jerky, not mainstream American style. But it tasted good. The biscuit/cookie/crackers thing came in a box and is so addicting. I couldn't put them down. Place is a small market. Cool South African cuisine, delicious meat pies. Very easy to find and get to. Plenty of parking out front and in back.

This was my first time visiting Meal in a Pie and it was a wonderful experience! The girl behind the counter was more than happy to answer all of my questions and make some delicious recommendations. I got a few different meat pies to-go (my favorite was the steak and kidney!) and I loved how buttery and flaky the crust was! I also got some candy treats and a few pantry items. Can't wait to go back and sample more items!

If you’re in the area, this place is a must try! The pies were hot and full of flavor. The filo dough that surrounded the deliciousness was flaky and will leave you wanting to come back for another bite. don’t forget to add a little side of their freshly made chutney. The gentleman at the counter was more than nice. I highly recommend that you run, don’t walk, to get a meal in a pie!!

First time l came to Fort Lauderdale, we were so excited about this store. So when l came to Fort Lauderdale for a day on business l made sure to pass by. When ordering, l told who l presumed to be Owner that l wanted my biltong cut thick not thin and also a chicken pie. This was after spending $148.00 in this man’s store. He brought me very thin cut biltong as well as chicken curry not plain chicken. When l reminded him that l had wanted thick Biltong, he got upset and said, “well do you want a refund” l politely declined the refund and reminded him that l had flown from Indiana and so l did want the Biltong, just not the way he gave it to me. He was so rude, and abrasive l was not sure what his problem was because the mistake was his not mine. I know now that when l return to Fort Lauderdale l will NOT be stopping here. I am an African American. Basically if you want to be treated like you are nothing, or as though you got the food for free then this may be the place for you. PS: Jungle Jim in Cincinnati Ohio has all the stuff he sells but for a fraction...

Great south african food store!! I came here with my wife and son for lunch a couple of days ago. Pretty small place but that's what gives it the charm. I'm from New Zealand and have yet to find a place that does good pies.. until I found meal in a pie. They are ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! maybe not exactly the same format that I'm used to, the result is still fantastic. The pastry is light and crispy and the filing is bursting with flavor. I had the chicken pie and my wife had the Shepards pie. They had other flavors that sounded mouth watering too. I also picked up some biltong which is a traditional south African jerky and that was great! You can call ahead and have it made to your degree of tenderness and add chilli spice if you like which I am definitely going to do. the hospitality and service is outstanding. Over all it was a great experience and I'll...
