Seriously, the only saving grace is that the food was actually delicious, but whereas that might make a food cart or food truck quaint and a vibe situation, for an establishment it is not the baseline for hospitality.
Came to pick up food, first issue: no napkins? No napkins? The absolute foundational bare minimum of hospitality? Then the guy just walks away completely ignoring my question. So, I walk past a table to go check for myself because I have faculties and am not a helpless person, another hidden guy who had obviously heard my question and didn't care enough to respond either, suddenly has flippant attitudes towards me about his perception of my "lack of respect?" You heard me ask the other guy a question and couldn't be bothered to answer a customer's question, but the customer checking for napkins himself is suddenly disrespectful? I've already paid you and obviously haven't wasted your time, and I don't feel like a simple question about napkins or a quick check for one myself is suddenly a high crime offense.
Oh but they "don't do napkins" anymore, because they "don't have to" which completely stunned me. You can get a napkin for a hotdog from a street vendor, but this whole building has no paper products? I understand your restroom is not for public use, but the lack of napkins speaks to both a complete apathy of the business, as well as asks some questions about how this whole establishment is run.
That's when I actually took a step back to analyze the whole place. Covid is long gone but an eat-in establishment still not open to the public. Dirty and dingy, falling into disrepair, cars with flat tires in the parking lot. Nasty parking lot full of debris, spills and rancidity all around the oil area, and 3 people on staff, with only one actual person doing work, and 2 grown adult people content to sit on their phone instead of answering simple questions. Danger Danger. The food was good, the guy in the back cooking actually cooks well and he will be fine anywhere else. This place is on it's last leg, barely operating, likely cannot open because it cannot pass an inspection, and that fail is not any direct result of the pandemic. This is the bad side of town in worsening times. Lots of poor republicans and the sheer apathy of the place is honestly kind of sad.
I recommend you close and sell this place to people who care about it and go follow your dreams because you are wasting your time plugged into your phones. Go be the content creators you envy and stop wasting everybodys time. To the cook in the back, thank you for the delicious food, ditch these losers and get yourself a cart or into another kitchen, you are obviously ready for prime time. The lazy people up front are taking...
Read moreWhen we first stopped by, it almost seemed like the place was closed, but it just doesn't seem to get a lot of business. It must just be a location problem, because the food was great! Their bento boxes are huge! The price was really good considering how much comes with them. I expected them to be light and compact like the traditional Japanese style lunch box, but you get a giant plate with your entrée, rice, seaweed or cucumber salad, an egg roll, a crab rangoon, and sweet and sour sauce, plus a plate of sushi on the side. Honestly, one bento would be enough to feed two or three people! The orange chicken I got was excellent. The California rolls had avocado that tasted fresh and they came with masago on top, which was a pleasant touch, considering that at most other restaurants, California rolls can be bland and boring. The only thing that wasn't very good was the fried rice. It was a bit dry and the vegetables were kind of chewy. Not that it really mattered... I was so full, I never made it to the rice! Our server was very polite and friendly. When I told her I was from out of town, she welcomed me to Pensacola very warmly and told me all the best things about the area. She was very attentive and helpful the entire time. I'll...
Read moreOrdered the Bento with miso and triple meat combo and white rice. Everything was bad, to start the dude at the window was just aloof, didn't have much of a friendly customer service attitude. I had already phoned in my order 10 minutes before getting there and they took another 20-25 to make it, everything seemed to be piled on (shouldn't the meats be cooked, or atleast tossed together?) The shrimp were tiny, tasted like they were canned and the chicken and beef were old and had like a slime consistency. Everything tasted like it was just reheated or was sitting in a chafing dish for too long but overall it was a small amount of meat over a sad cucumber salad at the bottom.
Miso was also fishy in a bad way.. I have a miso mix in my cupboard I should've been making instead. Rice was not cooked completely, hard on some grains or mushy on others. The experience was bad enough that for once I wanted to return the food but what for? So that I can wait the inane amount of time as last time? Had the food been fresh would've been fine with the wait and paying close to 20 bucks for the Bento plus upcharge for a dragon roll (this is actually okay, they mentioned upcharge for custom rolls) Hope the owners or managers see this and...
