Plum Tree — Restaurant in Florida

We been going here for a few years. I’m not sure if it’s a COVID issue as far as lack of quality ingredients or just terrible quality food they are purchasing. We ordered bourbon chicken, sesame chicken, fried dumplings, 2 orders of steamed broccoli and sweet and sour chicken for the kids. Honestly I could have bought frozen Chineese food at dollar general and it would most definitely taste better. Bland, cheap n gross. Lost our business for life. Not to mention they forgot my steamed broccoli n after driving 9 miles to get there and back home. After I phoned to let them know the mistake they said no charge come back I drove back to pick it up and no surprise had me pay full price. What a waste of an evening and $$$. Drive a few extra miles and go...

I ordered take-out based on the description on the menu: "Butterfly Shrimp, ...jumbo shrimp split open, each enfolded with bacon, pan fried with mixed veg...." It turned out to be an omelet with shrimp (and their tails) cooked inside the egg. After searching for the bacon, I found 4-5 one and half inch long RAW pieces of bacon resting on the bottom of the omelet. When I brought it back, the counter girl said they had always made it like that and pointed to a picture on the wall, and that the bacon was cooked. When I protested that perhaps then description in the menu should be changed, and held up the raw pieces of bacon again, she went to the owner who brushed her off and walked away. I’m surprised by the not-so-great reviews; this place is my favorite and I consider myself a foodie! I daydream chicken egg foo young (an omelette on fleek, try it! In Saint Louis, they put the egg foo young patties on white bread with mayo and pickle and call it a “Saint Paul Sandwich”) All of the cuisine Ive tried from Plum Tree satisfies the desire for large portions of Chinese take-out, but isn’t overly greasy or taste fake. I do stick to the chicken dishes only but that’s a rule I have for any inexpensive take-out. I’ve never had an issue calling in an order; the woman who I’ve spoken to is clear and friendly. But I encourage anyone speaking with an English Language Learner to please be patient. Choose kindness....
