Oh Briens Tavern — Restaurant in Follansbee District

I stopped here today for lunch after not being in this building for years. There used to be a restaurant at this location that I did not care for too much back in the day but apparently was opened by someone new. I stopped in relatively early. I wasn't sure what to order but the bartkeep Heidi(sp?), suggested the cheesesteak. Now, if you've ever read any of my reviews, you know I have eaten at many places around the globe. There have been very few times I give a place credit for a good cheesesteak. Anytime you don't have to add ketchup or mayo on a cheesesteak, u know its good. I live in Cleveland, Ohio, and I was on a genealogy trip to southeast Ohio and Follansbee, West Virginia on November 29th-30th. Oh Brien's Tavern was recommended to me for lunch, and I stopped there on November 30th before my trip home. I had an amazing lunch! The Philly Cheesesteak sandwich and homemade potato salad were absolutely delicious - the best I ever had! The sandwich was huge and was enough for my dinner too! The staff was so kind, welcoming, and accommodating. The atmosphere in the tavern is historic, rustic, and beautiful. I wish I lived closer to Oh Brien's Tavern because I would go there often! Finally, a bar in the area that doesn't feel like a dive bar and wreck of old man and smoke when you go in with something other to do than sit and drink. The karoke here is great, no just someone hitting play but a actual sound system with some autotune (thank god in my case). The owners did a awesome job with the remodel, big screens all around to watch games and very clean. We ordered few things off the menu and the philly steak from here is the real deal, and they don't skimp on meat either. Great food, great service, awesome atmopshere and people. Go show this place some love. We need more bars like this one...
