I don't understand these reviews. Given the sheer number of positive reviews including some that said that the food was so good that they felt they had died and gone to heaven, husband and I went here with lots of expectations and were mostly disappointed. First, their system is unclear - do you order and then get seated or do you get seated first? No clear instructions are provided. Second, once you figure out that you order first and then get seated, the wait to get the food is quite long. The servers looked exhausted. I don't know if this restaurant was extra busy today because of memorial day or if this is their norm. If it is their norm, they really need more servers because the ones working the floor today looked like they needed a break yesterday. Third, the food comes out in bits and pieces. Every single table, including ours, had one item that had come out first and people waiting for more food or everyone sharing the single item that did come out. This is haphazard planning. You will get more customer satisfaction if you get all the orders for each table together.
Now onto the actual food - hubby ordered Mysore masala dosa and I ordered the onion tomato chili uttapam. Overall the food was very average. I have been to south Indian restaurants before where I have been blown away. I was not blown away here. It is fine. Nothing wrong, just nothing to rave about. The Mysore masala dosa was quite plain with very little powder on the inside. What bothered both my husband and I most was the quantity of the masala. The quantity was probably enough for 4 bites of the dosa. That is not a masala dosa. Please put more masala in your dosas! The taste of the masala itself was also average. Dosas, especially masala dosas, are usually very filling. This one was not and husband was still hungry when my uttapam finally came. The uttapam was also pretty average. I expected it to be filled with onions, tomatoes and chilis but it was not. There were two uttapams in the plate which was actually nice because one would not have been sufficient for me, let alone my still hungry husband. Among the accompaniments, the chutneys were decent and the sambar was good, but the quantities were also very less on each of them. Our filter coffees were completely different from each other. Husband's was good - decent amount of coffee powder, exact amount of milk and froth. Mine had some much more milk that it appeared almost white. Needless to say, I was disappointed with the coffee.
All in all, we would have been way more disappointed with this place if we had to wait 30+ minutes for a table and then eat the quality of food we had. I don't know if there are better south Indian restaurants in Sacramento, but this is definitely not high up on my list of good south Indian restaurants...
Read moreHorribly disorganized and RUDE hosting. Great food!
I arrived on a busy Sunday afternoon, 4/22, with a full dining room. There were 2-3 parties in front of me. At least 2 more parties arrived behind me. I was dining alone. About 5 minutes into my wait, a member of the party behind me cut the line to approach the lead host who was busy with bills and other things behind the counter. He spoke with the host and got back in line. The host had not addressed anyone else in line since I had arrived. Several seated parties were wrapping up their meals and tables were opening. The party of 6 behind me was promptly seated. The parties in front of me were also seated. I waited. The host ignored me. I grabbed another host/busboy/waiter and asked him when I would be seated; there were several open tables now. He offered me a table near the busy door and line of patrons. I asked for a different table but said I would take that one if nothing was available; there were plenty of open tables. He sat me at a different location within a minute. I gave him my order as I was seated: 1 thali for dine-in, 1 samosa chole to-go. I waited about 5-7 minutes and saw parties in front of me beginning to be served, maybe starters. A few minutes go by and a 3rd waitstaff approaches me for my order. I explain that I already ordered, I tell him who I placed the order with and I repeat the order. Several minutes go by. Those other tables are getting complete meals. I have nothing. I've been seated for about 15-20 minutes now. THE LEAD HOST APPROACHES MY TABLE IN AN IRRITATED MANNER AND RUDELY ASKS ME WHEN I'M GOING TO ORDER, AS IF I'M HOLDING HIM UP. I was now irritated. With my irritated voice I told him that I had already ordered twice. I repeated my order. He quickly changed his demeanor. I was served within 2-3 minutes; thali is pre-prepared so this is how quickly I should've been served in the first place. THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT! This is some of the best South Indian cuisine I've had in the area; Unfortunately, the HORRIBLE SERVICE has greatly overshadowed the food. It's not worth being TREATED LIKE GARBAGE. If I hadn't been convinced to buy some discounted gift cards from here I would not return. As it is, I'll spend the gift card (probably at the Roseville location) and...

Our visit to Mylapore Folsom was nothing short of a disaster. We arrived slightly late to join our group for lunch and were rudely asked to move to a smaller table, even though we clearly had a stroller and needed more space. We complied, only to realize the staff failed to update our table number with the kitchen — a basic but crucial step they completely overlooked.
Because of this careless oversight, our food didn’t arrive even after 20 minutes. No apology, no update — nothing. I had to get up and chase down a waiter just to get our table number corrected. When two of our three dishes finally showed up, they were stone cold, clearly left sitting out in the kitchen for a while. We ate them reluctantly because we were short on time, but it was far from acceptable.
The third item — the Bene Dosa — was an even bigger mess. I had to remind the waiter four times, and still, nothing. Finally, I walked to the counter and asked the manager, who shockingly dismissed me with: “Please don’t tell me all this, you have to wait, okay?” Absolutely rude and unacceptable. No apology. No accountability. If a manager cannot do deal with patrons, he shouldn’t be there.
When the Bene Dosa finally arrived, it was cold and missing the key chutney powder that makes the dish what it is. After yet another complaint, it was eventually replaced — but by then, the rest of my group had already finished eating their barely edible meals.
And the cherry on top? Had this been any other decently run restaurant, they would’ve owned up to the mistake and refunded the bill as a gesture of goodwill. Instead, the only thing they refunded — after I strongly expressed my disapproval — was the Bene Dosa. That’s it.
This place has atrocious service, cold food, and a staff that clearly doesn’t care. The manager’s attitude was downright insulting. If you’re expecting decent food or even the most basic courtesy — look elsewhere. This was a complete waste of time and money. We will absolutely not be returning, and I would caution others...
