I woke up on a Thursday morning craving a “Soul Food Sunday Meal.” I choose Ray’s Southern Foods. Although I had eaten there a few other times, I normally ordered the chopped pork sandwich lunch special. Today I wanted a full Sunday dinner for lunch. I placed an online order, a Rib Tip Dinner plus an extra side - rib tips (with medium BBQ sauce on the side), collard greens, macaroni and cheese, potato salad and corn bread. I am typically leary about ordering ribs/rib tips (I normally order chopped barbeque) at restaurants because they tend to be either undercooked or tough, but Ray’s tips were definitely neither; those tips were seasoned and smoked to perfection and very tender. I did not have to dig meat out of my teeth. The sauce was delicious- perfect amount of sweet with the perfect amount of heat. I was very pleased with my meat of choice. All the sides were fresh and very tasty, and the corn bread was delicious (I was glad it was not sweet). The quality and taste of the food lived up to the presentation. I placed my order online and it was ready when I got there ( I got there 5 minutes before I said I would), but it was still hot (which tells me it had not been sitting there a very long time). The customer service was great as it always has been for me. The cashier was very friendly and personable. The price is very good, especially considering the portion size, as I was able to get (2) meals out of it. I will definitely be back when I have a taste for barbeque and/or a “Sunday Soul Food Meal”, but do not want to cook it. I love that I can get all of this in my...
Read moreI went off the reviews and was pleasantly surprised, talking about a diamond in the ruff this is it!
I met the owners son, who greeted us and offered us a sample of the 7 cheese macaroni as well as the Ray's special punch and it was delicious.
We ordered 2 dinners of smoke turkey wings, one with rice and two sides, macaroni and candy yams. The other dinner plate had dressing instead of rice, and the two sides were collard greens and potato salad. It was very tasty, the meat fell right off the bone. The sides items were authentic and made fresh, definitely not from a can. We ordered 2 Rays special punch and peach cobbler and banana pudding but were so full were going to have that tomorrow but we dud taste it and it too was delicious. The prices are reasonable.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone as I will be back very soon. It's really difficult for some reason to find authentic soul food in Georgia which is strange because it's the south but FINALLY I've found my go to spot right here for classic style soul food.
The customer service here is Great, as it's mostly family but everyone is very friendly and attentive to your needs.
The ONLY suggestions I would offer is that they incude the drink price with a meal. Next they should offer 2 sizes plates,...
Read moreI can be rather finicky when it comes to my food. But I promise you out of all the times I've been here, NOTHING on their menu disappoints! There's something special about the care and quality that goes into the preparation. You instantly tell the difference at the first bite. There's always something new to try on the menu. I can literally go in, close my eyes, point to something on the menu, and be totally satisfied with the choice. Food is seasoned to perfection. Most soul food/bbq places just make it salty. At Ray's, you can taste all the complexities in the flavor profile of the meal. The prices are fair for the amount and caliber of food you receive. I don't know about y'all, but I'm tired of being overcharged for less than good food that I just pick over. Totally not the case here! The restaurant is always clean and comfortable. I love the family photos that adorn the wall. You really feel like you're at your people's house and their grandparents just cooked you the best meal you've ever had. Staff is always friendly and are great at suggesting options when you can't narrow down your choice. Trust me, it's hard! Please, do yourself a solid and treat yourself to a meal here. You...
