I came into Genoa Wednesday, April 23 around 2:30 PM. The first thing I want to say is that I was treated very poorly by your staff. The young man who was in the middle of making coffee didn’t even bother to say anything to me while I’m standing at the counter for 5 minutes . Not a simple “I will be right with you” No acknowledgement I even exist. Just completely ignoring my presence and yes he saw me. He then comes over with a face and makes zero eye contact while asking what I want while he’s looking at his phone. He seemed almost annoyed. I then realize he is preparing to put the order into his phone, but still ….. you don’t make any eye contact at all with a customer? I then ask about a cake that is right in front of his face on the counter and he responds that he doesn’t know what kind of a cake it is. How do you not know? There is nobody to even ask? To top it all off, my friend left her pocketbook on one of your outside chairs. We were halfway home and as we turned around to come back we frantically called your establishment to ask someone to please go outside and get the bag. That didn’t work though because you guys don’t even answer the phone. We left a message but nobody returned the call. This is actually the second time I have been treated rudely by your staff and ignored at the counter. You need more staff if you can’t have someone dedicated to the counter and nobody is answering your phone.
Addendum: I see the owner has responded indicating if I leave a tip and encourage the barista I would get better service. Surely you are joking. I am an incredibly nice person who is always pleasant and leaves tips. Your server deserved no tip. I shouldn’t have to fawn all over your barista to get good service. And I did try and say hi but he wouldn’t acknowledge my presence. Nice to take accountability. Very...
Read moreI was a regular here throughout 2017 due to proximity. Sadly, this cafe lacks a lot of the essentials of a great coffee shop. First and foremost is the wait. The line for this place is almost never more than two people deep, but you will still wait 10-20 minutes every single time just to get your order taken. There simply is not enough staff. I had more than one occasion where there was no line and I still had to wait nearly ten minutes to have my order taken.
The part that always bugged me about this place is the atmosphere. Cafes tend to cater to a couple types of people--an individual working/studying or small groups looking to catch up. Genoa utter fails those who wish to work alone. It is almost as if the building is designed to be loud. They are also right in the middle of a neighborhood with lots of children--so you will often find yourself glaring at children after they decided to scream bloody murder and the parents did nothing about it.
It would appear that this place was built for small groups who intend to have business meetings or catch up. But they fail there as well. There is so little comfortable seating that you will find it difficult to want to spend more than half an hour here. And if you are lucky enough to get one of the few comfortable seats, you will quickly realize how awkwardly placed they are.
The coffee is decent and the food is reasonably priced (for Fort Collins). The best part of this place (as with most cafes) is the baristas. They genuinely try despite working for an extremely dysfunctional cafe in a building that does not allow the atmosphere necessary. Do yourself a favor and go to Harbinger or Bindle if you live in East...
Read moreI'm saddened that we did not have a great experience here recently as I've read alot of reviews on FB that people were really happy. We went on Monday Jan 15, a little before noon. There were a few people seated inside (maybe 1/3 of the tables were full), one couple ahead of us in line, and a handful people came in behind us. It was extremely cold inside and we had to keep our coats and hats on the entire visit. We ordered from a gentleman who seemed less than enthusiastic to be there and were required to tip (or not tip) on the bill when checking out - I will never tip this way in advance again. We waited over 20 mins and finally received most, not all, of our order. A bagel sandwich, bland with the tiniest amount of the thinnest bacon that exists, but warm and ok. A grilled panini sandwich, definitely yummy, with bowtie pasta with a bland and sparse cheese for the mac 'n cheese side, not yummy. I was also assured that my knish would be "right out". After another 15 mins, we were done eating, and my knish never arrived. I went to the counter to inquire and was told "Oh, I gave it to someone else, I can make you another". No, I'm sorry, no urgency, no estimate of how long it takes, nothing. I waited another 10 mins to be given a small microwaved, spongy/rubbery textured, bland knish. It seems like it might have been initially fried as it had a bread coating, then microwaved, because it was very difficult to bite and chew. I wish I hadn't left a tip for the poor service. I was given a free drink card for my trouble but I'm not sure it's worth going back, except for the panini sandwich, but the wait would...
