I didn't try this place until they relocated out of the nasty little woodframe building they were in initially. My first visit wasn't a great one, the food was.. So so and expensive for the portion I got and it is by no means "authentic" Mexican cuisine, it's like Tex-Mex canned, bagged and frozen food that's watery on the plate.
The woman who took my order was very rude and intentionally inattentive. From the time we sat down she got on the phone, took our order while on the phone and remained on the phone after we paid and left. She was unaware my father and I understood some Spanish and heard the things she said about us that were rather insulting. When she brought the food out she dropped our plates down as if it was an inconvenience to have to work while she was on the phone or something.
I went back after my sister insisted about a year later, the place still sucked and for the same reasons. The same woman was there and just as rude and on the phone again! My sister got pretty much a whole can of water on her plate, the food was cold and again she presumed we knew no Spanish and had some nasty things to say. I did not eat, I sent my food back and left, never going back.

Read moreWow. What a wonderful restaurant. Simply extraordinary food. Sparklingly fresh ingredients prepared with skill and passion. My wife and I shared the best guacamole we've ever tasted, and then the Cochinita Tacos and the Blue Coast Grill (chicken and steak fajitas). The flavors are subtle, complex, and delicious. My wife is gluten free, and this restaurant may just be the most attentive to the needs of gluten sensitive customers of any we have ever visited -- anywhere. The owner made it clear she makes this a priority for her clientele. MANY of the dishes are -- or can be made -- GF. All of the staff are friendly, attentive, and caring. The space is decorated with a sense of whimsy that made us smile. Our only regret is that we have to travel about 1,300 miles from home to come...
Read moreYou might overlook the Costa Azul Mexican Restaurant if you are driving down Okeechobee Road. It is modestly tucked away in the corner of one of those ubiquitous strip shopping areas with a mobile phone store beside it. But stop at this hidden gem and you won't be disappointed. We have been looking for a high quality Mexican restaurant for over a year without much success when a friend recommended the Costa Azul. Our search is over! Don't be put off by the modest surroundings, the food and service here are excellent. I enjoyed the shrimp cocktail which, although listed as an appetizer, could actually be a main course or share with friend. Each dish we ordered was freshly prepared and excellent and the wait staff are very friendly and welcoming. Highly...
