Oh man, I was kind of distressed when I arrived at the restaurant and discovered it was under new management. Apparently, the previous owner passed away unexpectedly and the restaurant was then sold to this new family.
When we walked in and before knowing this information, we noticed the dining room had been re-done and re-organized in a very thoughtful and pleasant way. So far so good because it was about time and the previous layout and decorations were very reminiscent of those documentary series where they travel to North Korea and eat in the local restaurants but secretly film everything. It was super austere. It looks much nicer now overall.
We first realized there was something off when we were presented with a menu completely different than what we had seen before. Most notably, was the absence of any type of lunch menu or lunch special. The new owners have decided to go with a one price menu that can be used for both lunch and dinner. There’s nothing wrong with this, but the previous menu had a wonderful bento box style option. That was the perfect amount of food for lunch While giving a great assortment of side dishes with your entrée. Now you get a full dinner size portion, which is a lot of food. This is great if this is what you’re looking for, but it’s a lot for lunch. Keep in mind that the prices reflect this change in portions. The lunch entrée that was typically around $15 will now cost you around $25. As I said, this is OK now that we understand and the portions are significantly different and you will get the full Banchan Side dish experience as well.
The only blip this process was the waitress, who apparently is now one of the new owners didn’t seem to know what items on the previous menu were comparable to the new menu. I kept trying to explain what was on the previous menu and she simply couldn’t convey what items on the new menu were the same as the last ones because the names have changed. This is a little odd because you would think the new owner would know everything on the previous menu
Anyway, we worked through it and ordered what we thought was our favorites. First thing she did was her to bring out a dozen small banchan plates including kimchi, spicy cucumbers, and sweet & tangy Daikon radish, to name a few. This was a really nice experience and one that was not included under the previous owners.
The food arrived very quickly, and I’m happy to say that, although the portions were significantly larger, the quality and taste of the food had not changed at all. In fact, one of the dishes was improved. We ordered the spicy steak, sizzling, chicken, and beef and kimchi tacos. There were plenty of sauce options available on the table.
The tacos ran approximately $13 for two. Both the sizzling chicken and the spicy steak or $25 platters each. The canned soda was $3.50. Lunch for the three of us for three entrées and one soda was just under $70. A little pricey for lunch but a very wonderful experience. Will definitely...
Read moreI have a friend who absolutely loves anything Korean, so my group of friends and I decided to surprise her and take her here for her birthday. None of us had come here before nor have ever even eaten Korean food before so it was definitely something new for all of us. When we walked in we were the only ones in the restaurant (surprisingly) and at first the waitress seemed a little rude, but she quickly warmed up to us and was extremely pleasant and friendly. Myself and my friend ordered vegetable fried rice (We aren't very daring) with Miso soup. My friend ordered Beef and Broccoli which came with a soup, my friend decided to get Seaweed Soup, and fried rice. My fourth friend ordered Rice in a Stone Bowl (I believe that was the name) out of curiosity, which also came with a soup. As we waited for our foods we enjoyed our bowls of Miso and Seaweed soups. The Miso soup was amazing in my opinion, not too salty and the tofu was cut in just the right size, my other two friends who ordered the Miso agreed. However my friend who ordered the seaweed soup allowed me to try it and we both agreed it was a bit too salty, but still good none the less. Soon our dishes came out and the waitress, seeing how we had no idea what any of the small side dishes she brought out were, explained to us what they were, such as Kimchi and some other small items you can add into your food. My friend who ordered the Beef and Broccoli allowed me to try a piece of her beef. I was hesitant to try at first, since I was afraid it would be rubbery and tough like most Asian restaurants, but was extremely surprised to find it was flavorful and tender, not rubbery at all. The fried rice was excellent as well! My also enjoyed her Rice in the Stone Bowl, but since I didn't try it I can't describe the taste, but she said it was good as well. All in all, I came in not expecting anything special and came out with extreme satisfaction and will definitely be returning sometime soon! So if you want to eat some well cooked and authentic Korean food, please do try...
Read moreI enjoyed this place a lot. This place used to be owned by family friends and they sold it to the new owners. My friends tried the spicy pork (dweji bulgogi) in which they enjoyed it. The mixed rice bowl (bibimbap) was great and plenty of food. I, however was not too impressed with my squid stir fry (ojingo bokum), the flavors were decent, just not a lot of squid like I usually get from other Korean restaurants. Everything else was great and on point. The prices on Google's page is incorrect and I have posted images of their current menu and reasonable prices. Try it for yourself and make up your own mind. 😊
Update (Feb 12, 2017): A bunch of little updates has occurred and it's great. The owner had explained that they increased the amount (+3oz.) of squid stir fry (oijingo bokkum) due to my last plate being a little small. This place has gone up in my book. I highly enjoyed their banchan. They are the only place around here that serves up that many! Other places you might get 3 to 5 tops. Try the white cube radish, you might ask for more, a lot more. Their Mixed rice bowl (Dolsot Bi Bim Bap) is beautifully laid out with an assortment of cooked items in the bowl with a gorgeous perfectly fried egg on top. I had only wished to take a picture but the person who got it, couldn't wait to dig in. 😂 If you don't know what to get, try that or their signature House Beef (Bulgogi). If you like spicy, then the spicy pork (dweji Bulgogi) is the way to go. It is a slow build-up of spicy. (I prefer my spicy pork a bit sweeter with the compliments of spicy) This dish is more savory and little to no sweet, but very flavorful to say the least. If you haven't tried this place yet, you're missing out. The owners are very sweet and enjoys hearing positive feedback. I recommend trying something a little different if you haven't already. Korean BBQ is...
