New update: You think I would’ve learned from my last experience but decided to try again since food options are limited in terminal 2. Ordered a tuna melt and it was very odd. The sandwich was plain white bread with plain tuna, raw cherry tomatoes sliced in half and cheddar cheese melted on top. The tuna was cold under the cheese. Are kids making your food? I do not understand. It wasn’t edible. I said said yuck to the server with an almost full plate of food and she still charged me. It would be delightful if places actually tried to make food tasty. A tuna melt is hard to mess up but this establishment did.
I always stop here when flying through Terminal 2 but today was a really wierd experience. I was the only customer at the time and ordered a gluten free grilled cheese and potato salad. The staff didn't realize my order went in and didn't understand what gluten free was so it took 30 min for my lunch. I was getting concerned that my meal would not arrive before my boarding time so I inquired about it and was told that the cook did not understand how to make gluten free, I was about to cancel the order but decided to give it another minute or so. When the server placed my plate in front of me she knocked over my drink and it splashed on me and all over my seat. She apologized, I understand things happen. I asked while paying for my check if she could comp a dessert for the wait, etc and she got really upset and asked why because they couldn't figure out the bread? No, because I waited 30 min for a sandwich and had my drink spilled on me. It would be just a nice courtesy to do this, not asking for a lot. Since she was upset about me asking, I said nevermind on the dessert. For the first time I did not tip since she acted so rudely. Happy to pay my bill, happy to reward good service. This was not...
Read moreTonight, after happily and regularly patronizing this establishment since it opened, I was forced to break-up and move on to a new pre-flight companion. Surdyk's, I'm sorry, but it's definitely you, not me, and I'm never spending another dollar here.
The last two times I've stopped in before a flight the kitchen was closed and they had no real food. Frustrating, but understandable. I still love the quiet space, awesome wine, and superb service. This time I came prepared with a salad from an across-the-airport competitor.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by the superior wait staff and informed their kitchen was closed; I could still enjoy a glass of wine; however, as expected, they only had pre-made snacks.
I sat down, opened the menu to select the glasses of wine I was going to have, and I opened the salad. Within seconds I was told I couldn't have any outside food--I could only order a drink.
This is bad business. This is not a law. There is zero risk of spreading food borne illnesses. This may be a policy, but certainly not one that should be enforced when the kitchen is closed and a regular patron is about to order at least two glasses of overpriced wine.
Luckily, the new restaurant/pub, Stone Arch had zero problem with "outside" food even though their kitchen was open. Thanks for the memories, Surdyk's Flights, but I've found my new pre-flight...
Read moreWe sat at the "bar" area facing the cooks and prep area for our meal. Ten minutes had passed before a server came to take care of us.
I ordered the Mac and Cheese, which was a salty, pre-made, luke warm, microwaved pile of (what tasted like) cheep knock off Velveeta mac and cheese. For the price and amount of food that was presented, I expected much more.
Worst part of the experience was seeing several safety issues in kitchen as I was eating. Someone will get sick if this continues. I never saw any of the food prep staff wash their hands. Although they wore gloves, it doesn't help when you are touching everything without changing them. One of the prep cooks (wearing gloves) used an already dirty rag to wipe down a dirty cutting board and continue to prep food afterwards without changing gloves or washing hands. Another staff person cut some bread, proceeded to eat that while grabbing into pick up a couple pickles and eat those. These were the prime examples of poor sanitation/food prep.
Suggestion not to have clear/glass see through area if the staff is going to do these sort of things.
The entire experience made me re-think my decision to eat there. I should have gone to...
