We ate brunch at Spoke and Ivy on Sunday. The creative food and drinks were delicious and the service was excellent! However the noise level was extremely loud, due to the high ceiling and lack of acoustics to absorb the sound. On a Sunday, only the Bistro Brunch menu is available. Next time we make reservations, we will request a table in the smaller dining area behind the check in desk. We started with drinks of a refreshing East Side Baddie, an old fashioned, an expresso martini, and a vanilla raspberry latte. For appetizers, we ordered a fresh half Ivy salad, the interesting potato latke, and the stuffed mushrooms. Again, all were delicious! All were very good! For entrees, we ordered the steak & egg with potatoes & asparagus, and shrimp (3 jumbo) & grits. I would have liked three times as much grits in the dish, but the marinara sauce and fresh pesto were a creative touch! No bread basket is served with the meal, which would have been nice to scoop up the rest of the delicious marinara sauce in both the stuffed mushrooms and the shrimp & grits. For desserts, we ordered the tender beignets, the gigantic cinnamon roll, and the chai Terimisu. All 3 were excellent, and certainly big enough for two to share! There was a line at the restrooms because it is just 2 single-stall unisex restrooms. One recommendation I have would be to install pull-down blinds on the large windows facing the street because during midday the sun was shining right in our eyes with our chairs facing the windows. This restaurant is definitely one that I would return to for another...
Read moreI had really high hopes for this place. Moving from the Indy food scene to here four years ago, we could tell that finer dining options were limited in the FW area. Leading up to their opening, their social media made it seem like a place we’d really enjoy- Elevate cocktails, unique entree options, cozy/modern atmosphere. We came in on a Wednesday evening and it was maybe half full but incredibly loud near the bar. We asked to be seated in the empty area around the corner which was much more conducive for our part of 4 to have conversation. Service was quite slow from the get-go. We enjoyed the focaccia, but the tuna was lack-luster. When it came to ordering entrees the server was helpful in letting us know which options would be best suited with a protein if they did not come with one. One of our group members ordered the Milanese which was wonderful! The shrimp and grits were tasty, but nothing to write home about. My husband and I both ordered the tagliatelle (one with shrimp and one with the chicken)- the pasta was way under cooked (gummy) and the entire dish needed to be seasoned with a much heavier hand. It was boring. Tasteless. Leek, fennel, and grapefruit are the flavors that drew me to ordering this dish and I was disappointed with the presentation. Maybe they’re more on their A-game on weekends, but I would expect consistent quality for the price. Overall, I don’t think we’ll be back for dinner after being let down by...
Read moreCame to IN. to do some shopping and decided to grab a bite to eat. So to Google Maps we go and it is the same old restaurants appearing, until we come across Spoke + Ivy. Okay, here is something new...and off we go through several connecting neighborhoods that made us question our decision of picking it. However, as soon as we turned the corner and I saw the outside I had to go in. Black building with an inviting industrial look to it had me curious. Step inside and what a delight! Eclectic and modern with so many cute additions! We had a wonderfully personable server named Bethany (that usually bartends, she told us). Our timing put us at brunch and although my husband was wanting their caesar salad that is not on the brunch menu, Bethany said, no problem and made it happen. I ordered the biscuits & gravy with a side of the paprika potatoes. Everything was really good, but I have to point out that the biscuits were very fresh and the star of my dish. My husband had a gin & tonic and I ordered a Spoke Spritz. We both loved our drinks and I ended up ordering a gin & tonic because it was that good. Bethany said it they use a Japanese gin with mandarin notes. We plan to come back here again when we make another trip to try some of their other menu choices. We recommend you give this restaurant a shot, despite the out of the way location, you will not be...
