Believe the hype! I dont normally leave reviews but here we go!
My group of friends and I (9 of us!) had just finished a 3 day backpacking trip and we needed a place to stay that was convenient for everywhere and we wanted to get one last meal in. We chose Garberville and I looked up the reviews and couldn't believe a place had 5 stars...let alone a Mediterranean spot where the cook (Steve) slings Gyro bowls and falafels from a window!
The process was a little messy (you dont pay him but you have to go inside and pay the cashier, take the receipt out to Steve and tell him what you want and you watch a master at work.
Like I said, there was 9 of us. Thats not a small task to get 9 orders out all at the same time while we crowd your window cook area eyeing you up...but it was a real pleasure watching Steve cut, dice, season, and cook our food up. The wait really wasnt all that bad...you could tell Steve really cared about making sure all the food was proportionate, and that everything was seasoned well...he gave us a background of some of the produce in our dishes and how they were from local farms, etc. It was great.
The food, the chef, the experience...top notch and a true labor of love.
Thanks Steve! as someone who has worked in the food industry from dishwasher, bus boy, waiter, cashier, cook...you've got a...
Read moreBefore going to the Avenue of the Giants I pulled into a Patriot gas station in Garberville, California. I noticed there was a small window where a man with a chef's hat was serving food. I asked him if he had anything for me that had little salt. He recommended his falafel. I ordered it, and couldn't believe my eyes when he handed it to me. It was like an art creation. It was truly delicious and filled me up for hours afterward. The gentleman was very courteous, and actually came out and sat down and talked with me. He really takes pride in his job, and it shows in the quality of his food. If I'm ever in Garberville again, I will definitely go back to the gas...
Read moreI am originally from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and in Pennsylvania they cut their lamb right off of the spinner but I have to say for a non-traditional gyro place he has wonderful gyros and everything you can add on it is great so I give this place five stars because he deserves it and he would and like he said he would have the spinning lamb meat if California would allow him but unfortunately they won't so boo to that. He is a hard worker and he works very hard to make your sandwich the best he could always get the cucumber sauce!! You're awesome and I hope you stay longer I actually hope that you get a...
