We stopped at this little diner off the side of the road in this adorable little coal town in the middle of Pennsylvania. I had to try it after since my name is the same and believe it or not they pronounce it the same as well! The service was quite welcoming and homely. It was pretty busy as we expected it to be. The menu options are plentiful. My fiance got the stuffed French toast, my kids got regular French toast and I got the peirogie omelette. The coffee was decent and the kids absolutely loved the delicious rich chocolate milk. The food came out after a short bit and was impressive and plentiful. The omelette looked and tasted absolutely divine. and was stuffed with mashed potato, fried onions, and cheese inside the omelette. I've never seen or tasted an equal anywhere. The French toast were big and fluffy and the kids showed no mercy on them. The stuffed French toast was actually stuffed and looked tasted so good. The service was so good and attentive and they love their customers. I was happy that I was the first Freeland to actually step foot in that diner and the staff loved it. The bacon we ordered had so much flavor and meat and the scrapple was so much better than what Delaware has to offer. If you're ever in the highest borough of Pennsylvania, I highly recommend stopping by this little place on the side of the road and embellish your taste buds with their delectable food and try their truly homemade...
Read moreWake up at 4:30am, drive an hour and a half to my current job site an hour early to grab breakfast, and 100% worth it. This is the short and easy review of it.
For more, it was entirely a classic sort of vibe, with classic sort of food, with a bit of their own stuff going on. Decided on a 'pierogi' omelette (no pierogis in it), hashbrowns, sausage on the side. Omelette came stuffed with mashed potatoes and sautéed onions with cheddar cheese mixed in. I was curious on how this would be, texture-wise. Turns out, on its own, it was a bit too much, too 'heavy' for a breakfast. But I spread it on the toast like a jam, and it was an absolute delight, and nothing negative to say on it at all in that style. Sausages were pretty standard breakfast sausages, and hashbrowns were the shredded variety, crisped up and greasy as they should be.
Staff were all an absolute joy to have serving the meal, all cheery and conversational, which I personally love when eating out. I'd like to try a non-breakfast meal here, but damned if it isn't absolutely packed full without any spare parking spots each time I finish work in the area, and I sadly lack the patience to wait already being faced with an hour and a half drive to get back home. But clearly that shows how good the food is to be completely full each time I cross by in the afternoon/evening. Maybe someday I'll get the chance to try a dinner here, and looking forward to it if I...
Read moreVery nice place with a home town vibe. The people were very friendly and helpful. The food was typical diner fare with good size portions and we all really enjoyed our various meals. The ONLY reason I gave this place 4 stars was the way the owner treated an elderly man who was dining alone who looked down on his luck. He was speaking to a couple and said in an offensive voice "Do you want me to get rid of him?!" I was utterly shocked. In this very tense time where there is such uncertainty and ugliness in the world, I would hope that people would try to be more compassionate and be more kind to one another. Maybe I'm wrong but I saw a very lonely person who needed to be near other people. Before you make assumptions about someone, just try to envision yourself in that person's shoes...
