The Ranchos Plaza Grill has the Best New Mexican Food and Cuisine of Any restaurant in the Taos area and I Definitely give them 5 Stars for Food, Service and Atmosphere!
If you like to eat homemade, authentic New Mexican cuisine at a restaurant in Taos where you also get friendly, attentive service and in a historic, real Adobe building, with an authentic, traditional New Mexico atmosphere and ambience, then Ranchos Plaza Grill in Ranchos de Taos, is the restaurant you should try. Located in the same Plaza as the historic San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church, said to be the most photographed church in the United States, the Plaza Ranchos Grille is conveniently located right off the main road as you drive north into Taos from the Santa Fe area.
As for the ambience, Ranchos Plaza Grille is also the most traditional and authentic atmosphere in a restaurant you're going to find in Taos and it's a great place to have an intimate dinner with your spouse or a friend, or, as my family did, a great place to have a special birthday dinner or family dinner for any special occasion.
The building is an authentic Adobe and you know when you're in a genuine, older, Historic adobe building, because the look, feel and dimensions of an authentic Adobe, built before 1900, is obvious: they're somewhat smaller than today's buildings, less windows, lower ceilings, real vigas (natural wooden beams traversing the interior ceilings, visible inside the rooms) and there's an almost solemn feeling of the ambience.
The food, the cuisine at Ranchos Plaza Grille, is Authentically New Mexican, with the delicious green and red chile dishes our New Mexican Hispano families grew up on and seemingly prepared in the style our Grandmothers, Mothers and Aunts would make our dinners when we were growing up.
They serve light and delicious sopapillas and their green and red Chile, with enchiladas, chicken, beef and traditional pinto beans, or whatever you order, chile rellenos, smothered burritos, tacos, tostadas, you're going to love New Mexican cuisine if you don't already, once you enjoy lunch or dinner at Ranchos Plaza Grille, an authentic, quaint and truly Great New Mexican restaurant.
The Ranchos Plaza Grille is owned and operated by a local family from Taos/Ranchos de Taos, who are doing an amazing and successful job of keeping our beloved New Mexico Traditional Cuisine with our regional favorite dishes, green and red chile and tasty sopapillas, readily available in their beautiful historic Adobe restaurant and they have certainly earned a sincere Thank You!, 5 stars and the accolades and highest recommendations, as one of the best restaurants in Taos, N.M.,...
Read moreOMG! We have been in Taos 5 days now, and have eaten out 2 times a day at a different place each time. All were good or better, but the Ranchos Plaza Grill takes 1st place. See my pictures. The chips, salsa and guacamole were out of this world. I'm 74 years old and have traveled a lot and eaten out at big places and small, well known and obscure. Not only is the food here exquisite the place is historic. A little run-down, but what can you expect of a building that is hundreds of years old all authentic. Portions were huge. My chicken tostadas were delicious, the wife's cheese enchilada was also. The guacamole is probably the best I've ever had, and the salsa may be also. I'm telling you this was eye opening. Hundreds of years old and in a constant state of preservation, the plaza is home to several businesses, a historic Catholic church, and many Adobe casa's. Worth a stop and...
Read moreDisappointing and Unwelcoming Experience
We stopped by Rancho Plaza Grill for an early dinner with our two service dogs, who were in strollers to help us manage the heat and mobility. Despite the patio being completely empty at 4:45 PM, we were told absolutely no dogs allowed on the patio—not even service dogs. The staff looked at us like we were doing something wrong and made no effort to be understanding or accommodating.
It was an incredibly rude and disappointing experience, especially in a town like Taos where many places are welcoming to pet owners and those with accessibility needs. If you’re a pet lover or someone who relies on a service animal, do yourself a favor and stay far away from this place.
There are far better spots in town with better food and...
