THUNDERBIRD INN — Restaurant in Four Corners States

As I pulled into the parking lot the air around me started to shimmer and swirl. I wasn't sure what was happening. I got out of the car and I felt like I stepped through a time portal. This has to be one of the coolest roadhouses I have ever been in. The pictures on the walls tell a story. The people are the bar telling stories tell a story. The people here, from the staff to the regulars are all awesome. I came as a complete stranger and within a few moments I had a dozen new friends. I even hung out with several of them over the course of my vacation. I had some great food and great drinks and had a great time. The Thunderbird Inn is a must go-to spot if you’re passing through or a townie looking for colorful evening. I come here a couple times a year when I stay out at our property and have always enjoyed hanging out, grabbing a bite, and maybe having a couple beers. Most items on the menu are deep-fried so if you’re a health nut, you’ll have better luck grazing with the horses in the field across the street. That said, the Thunderbird’s menu has evolved over the years and has incorporated some healthy options (like lettuce and tomato with your hamburger?).

I ordered a mushroom swiss cheeseburger, it was the special of the day so I assumed it would come out fast. I can't say if it was good or bad. Waited 30 minutes with no food, tried to pay for the beer and bartender said my food would be out in a minute. Stayed, waited another 10 minutes, no food. I laid a $5 on the bar and left hungry and disappointed.
